Obituaries Clara Bell Sheehan Champion

Clara Bell Sheehan Champion, 82, of Pine Hill passed away Monday, May 10, 2004 at her home. Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Benny Harrison officiating. Interment followed at Kelly Cemetery.

Ms. Champion was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include six sons John F. Champion of Dickinson, Cornelius Champion Jr. of Dixons Mills, Lawrence Champion of Arlington, Ronnie Champion and Henry Champion of Thomasville, and Hank Champion of Pine Hill, three daughters Patricia Klug and Sandra F. Champion of Pine Hill and Dorothy J. Calvert of Decatur, a brother Johnny Clifford Sheehan of Orrville, 24 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John F. Champion, Cornelius Champion, Jr., Lawrence Champion, Ronnie Champion, Hank Champion, Henry Champion, and Cornelius Champion, III.

Clara Mushatt

Clara Mushatt, 101, of Atmore passed away in the Atmore Hospital on May 1, 2004. Funeral services were held May 6 at 11 a.m. at Gaines Chapel with Rev. Davis officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.

Mrs. Mushatt was a housewife and is survived by two nieces Mary Alice Fenney of Atmore and Barbara Smith of Sweet Water.

Pallbearers were friends.

Thomas Jackson Phillips

Thomas Jackson Phillips, 55, of Camden passed away May 11, 2004 in Montgomery hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Camden Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Interment followed at Canton Bend Methodist Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Phillips, four daughters, Margaret Carlisle (Bart) of Birmingham, Meredith Angelette (Paul) of Millbrook, Melanie Lawrence (Chris) of Atlanta, Ga., Ashley Biggs (John) of Demopolis, five grandchildren, two sisters, Linda Matthews and Marie Norris, and two brothers, Bruce Phillips and Don Phillips.

Flowers will be received or donations may be given to Camden Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.

Jack Stephens

Jack Stephens, 71, passed away May 15, 2004 at his residence in Grove Hill. Funeral services were held Monday, May 17 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Interment followed in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill.

Mr. Stephens was a native of Thomasville, a member of the Grove Hill Baptist Church and a retired mill wright with MacMillan Bloedel.

Survived by his wife Nell Pugh Stephens, sons Kerry and Kliff Stephens of Grove Hill, brothers Hollis Stephens of Austin, Texas, Everette Stephens of Grove Hill and Herman Stephens of Chilton, a sister Sally Evans of Carthage, Miss., four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Stan Hutto, Bobby Newton, Buster Hough, Willie Austin, Stevie Stephens, and Bennie Ray Stephens. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Fore, Preston Webb, Jimmy Wiggins, Bill Hamilton, DeVane Paul, and Cecil Morgan.

Maggie Wright

Maggie Wright, 92, of Atmore passed away at the Atmore Nursing Care Center on May 3, 2004. Funeral services were held on May 8 in the House of God (Pillow Ground) with Rev. Harold K. Lambert officiating. Interment followed at the Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.

Ms. Wright was a foster parent and a member of the Care for Children organization.

Survivors include two daughters; Katie B. Lambert (Eddie) and Ardie Mae Pierce (Walter), two sisters Emma Daniels and Lelia McCastle both of Atmore, 15 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons-Scottie Lambert, Vincent Lambert, Eugene Marshall, Ronnie Pierce, Michael Arnold, and Greg Pierce.
