Virginia Ruth Barr Virginia Ruth Barr, 67, of Nanafalia died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at Warren Manor Nursing Home in Selma. Graveside services were held at Nanafalia Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24 with Rev. Brooks Etheridge officiating. She was born in Meridian, Miss. Aug. 19, 1937 and was a member of Nanafalia Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Rachel Sumerlin (Douglas) Hayes of Nanafalia; one brother, R.M. Barr of Houston, Texas; one niece, Tammy Sumerlin of Nanafalia; two nephews, Rob Barr of Calera and Marcus Barr of Tuscaloosa; and one great-niece, Regan Barr of Calera. Pallbearers were Robert Barr, Jr., Marcus Barr, Alfred Barr, John Ramsey, Jr., Charlie Pritchett and Sherman Faile. Funeral arrangements directed by O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
Cyrill Crocker Cyrill Crocker, 89, a native of Marengo County and a resident of Thomasville died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 in the Thomasville Nursing Home. Graveside services were held at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29 with Rev. Hal Taylor officiating. Mr. Crocker served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he worked for many years with Orkin and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Fannie Pearl Crocker of Vineland; one daughter, JoAnn Bridges of Linden; two sons, Charlie Rex (Judy) Leonard and Harold Wayne (Charlotte) Leonard, both of Vineland; four granddaughters, Sonja (Mickey) Sanford of Demopolis, Rhonda (Allen) Flint of Hattiesburg, Miss., Wendy (David) Miller of Hoover and Leanne Leonard of Cullman; one grandson, Thomas Wayne (Christina) Leonard of Vineland; five great-grandchildren, Jim Allen, Michael Sanford, Kristin Yelverton, Leah Yelverton and Colby Leonard; and one great-great-grandchild, Haden Yelverton. James Finklea James Finklea, 77, a resident of Camden died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at J. Paul Jones Hospital in Camden. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Wayman Chapel Baptist Church in Sedan. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Vidmer Alston Sessions Vidmer Alston Sessions, 83, a native of Marengo County and a resident of Sweet Water died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at his home. Funeral services were held at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Sweet Water at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 with Rev. Scott Armstrong and Rev. Bruce Squires officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Sessions was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed gardening. He was an elder at Geneva Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong member of the South Marengo Rescue Squad. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (David) Rogers of Sweet Water and Linda (Norbourne) Dunning of Demopolis; one son, Thomas (Barbara) Sessions of Sweet Water; one sister-in-law, Florence (Billy) Flowers of Demopolis; four granddaughters, Paula S. Strickland, Rebecca S. Cramer, Christina (Danny) Kircharr and Amy (Jimmy) Rogers; two great-grandsons, Thomas Cramer and Andrew Cramer; and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Cramer. Pallbearers were Kim Morgan, Tim Flowers, Robbie Barr, Tom Dunn, Bo Ward and Alton Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Elders of Geneva Presbyterian Church and The Heavenly Highway Seniors of Hope Baptist Church. Daisy Lucy Dozier Warren Daisy Lucy Dozier Warren, 81, died Nov. 10, 2004 in Hermitage, Tenn. near Nashville, Tenn. Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Hermitage Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at McKendree Village with Rev. Arden Schlesinger, Dr. Ewatt Watts and Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Mrs. Warren was a graduate of Thomasville High School and of the University of Alabama, where she received the honorary Phi Beta Kappa Award and Key and other honors. She earned a masters degree in Bible at Scarritt College in Nashville. Her studies continued in Gerontology and Bible at Northwestern University and other universities. Her life work included her first job in Grove Hill as a social worker and other positions elsewhere as director of Christian education, counseling and drama directing in Georgia. And as associate editor at the United Methodist Publishing House in Nashville, where she edited Mature Years, a Sunday school book for the mature class. She remained at the publishing house for 31 years, where her favorite publication, Mature Years, fulfilled her needs for expressions of creativity, and her love of beauty, art and poetry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Slater Vaiden and Stella Beatrice Dozier of Lower Peach Tree; brothers, Slater Mathew Dozier, M.D., Jack Lanier Dozier, M.D., Frank Leonard Dozier, and a young brother, Charles LeBaron Dozier; and one young sister, Dorothy Louise Dozier. Survivors include her beloved husband of 31 years, James H. Warren; one brother, Edward Vaiden Dozier of Thomasville; one sister Ida Beatrice Dozier Lowry of Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews.
Lillie Bell Adams Wilcox Lillie Bell Adams Wilcox, 48, of Sweet Water died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 20 at 12 noon at Star Bethel Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John H. Wright officiating. Interment followed at Jackson Cemetery in Sweet Water. Mrs. Wilcox is a former employer of Browder Veneer. Survivors include her husband, Lura Wilcox; two brothers, J.D. (Dorothy) Adams of Fulton and Cedric (Cynthia) Adams of Sweet Water; four sisters, Evelyn (Trezzyant) Hopson of Dixons Mills, Bernice (Bobby) Green and Ella Bettis, both of Sweet Water, and Daisy (Samuel) Grayson of Springlake, N.C.
