Locals receive honors at UWA

Jamie Drinkard
Jamie Drinkard Alabama State Treasurer Kay Ivey was the guest speaker for the annual Honors Day Luncheon at the University of West Alabama. Among the honorees were four students from Thomasville.

Commenting that it was a “high honor to share this day,” Ivey’s advice to students was “Whatever you undertake-finish it, and whatever you undertake-be the very best you can be at it.” She also told the crowd of over three hundred that “Every person is either a blessing or a block, but never a blank.”

Following the luncheon in the Bell Conference Center, the traditional Honors Day Convocation was held in Bibb Graves Auditorium. Students were recognized for academic achievement and leadership on the Livingston campus.

Betsy Jacobs
Betsy Jacobs Jamie Jo Drinkard of Thomasville was named the recipient of the Aver Stephens Rumley Award. The award is named for a long-time member of the elementary education faculty, and is decided upon by the current faculty members. Drinkard is a President’s and Dean’s List Scholar, a varsity cheerleader, and a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She is also active in People Against A Littered State (PALS). Drinkard is the daughter of Brenda and Jerry Drinkard and the granddaughter of the late Marcile Dement and the late Clyde Dement, Eunice Drinkard and the late Harvel Drinkard. She is a senior majoring in elementary education and early childhood development.

Nikki Dixon
Nikki Dixon Betsy Jacobs of Thomasville was inducted into the Blue Key Honor Society. She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, the UWA housing Staff, the Student Government Association and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. She is also a Diamond Darling for the UWA Baseball Team. Jacobs is a sophomore majoring in elementary education and is the daughter of Michael and Tami Jacobs.

Nikki Dixon of Thomasville was inducted into the Blue Key Honor Society. She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. She is also on the UWA Housing Staff serving as Director of Stickney Hall. She is the daughter of James and Diane Dixon and Carol and Harry Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of Lottie Dixon.

Domoneek McCoy
Domoneek McCoy Domoneek McCoy of Thomasville was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. A chemistry major, McCoy is the daughter of William and Grace McCoy and the granddaughter of Susie Mae and R.C. Kidd and James and Abbie McCoy.
