Karis Collins Fund

A fund to help pay for the medical expenses in treating Karis Collins has been set up at First United Security Bank. Donations can be made at any bank branch.

Quilting volunteers wanted at Thomasville Nursing Home

The Thomasville Nursing Home volunteers are looking for individuals to share their quilting abilities with the residents. For more information call Joann Smyly at 334-636-5614.

Brownie troop 57 starts up

Brownie Troop #57 is now organizing in Thomasville, under the leadership of Martha Gramelspacher. The troop welcomes all girls in first, second and third grade.

Book Club to meet August 27

The Thomasville Book Club selections for August are: “Gap Creek” by Robert Morgan, “The Grass Widow” by Viola Liddell and “The Firm” by John Grisham. The Book Club will be discussing these books at the Aug. 27 meeting.

The Thomasville Book Club meets the last Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Book Nook in the North Chase Shopping Center.

Circuit court records topic for Historical Society meeting

The Clarke County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the assembly room in the basement of the Clarke County Courthouse. The program will be on the old circuit court records, many of which are from the early years of the county. A room has been renovated in the courthouse and the records have been cleaned, arranged and indexed. Those attending the meeting will get an opportunity to view the records and learn how they may be used for research.

The public is invited to attend the meeting. You are asked to enter the courthouse through the basement entrance at the rear of the courthouse.

VFW Post 5106 to meet Aug. 29

VFW Post 5106 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have their regular monthly meeting Monday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to come out to this meeting, meet the new commander and see and hear what the VFW will be doing for the year 2005-06.

GHMH to hold diabetic education seminar

Grove Hill Memorial Hospital will hold a Diabetes Education seminar on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at Grove Hill United Methodist Church, 104 Dubose Ave., Grove Hill.

The speaker will be Dr. Neil Shaffner, Diabetes and Endocrine Consultants, P.C. in Montgomery. The Topic will be Diabetic Care: The Latest Information.

TMHRC (retirees and former employees) will meet Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Ryan’s for Dutch treat lunch. All are invited to attend.

Parden family reunion planned

The Parden family reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 3 in the Bethel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Pre-Labor Day Fest set for Sept. 3

Pre-Labor Day Fest and birthday celebration for Katrina Sewell will be held Saturday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. at JASS Activity Center in Sweet Water.

Music will be by D.J. One Time. Advance tickets will be $7 and $10 at the door. Free food and drinks. Hosted by the Ladies of Distinction Social Club.

St. Jude Bike-A-Thon is Sept. 10

The Thomasville St. Jude Bike-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the front entrance of Thomasville High School from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Riders can pick up sponsor forms at Thomasville Middle and Thomasville Elementary School offices or you can contact Machelle West at 334-636-0186.

Showcase of Bands is Sept. 24

Don’t miss the second annual Southwest Alabama Showcase of Bands, which is scheduled for Sept. 24. Performances will begin at 4 p.m. at Anderson Field in Thomasville.

Bands from the surrounding areas will perform throughout the afternoon with closing ceremonies scheduled for 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and children.

Fulton VFD to hold gospel singing

The Fulton Volunteer Fire Department will hold their Annual Fall Gospel Singing Oct. 1 in downtown Fulton from 4:30 p.m. until.

Local talent includes Donald Pugh, George Weeks, Dixie Disciples, Wayne Campbell, Brandy Beech, Rev. & Scotty, The Freedomland Quartet, Southern Heritage, Centurion Quartet and Bridgette Shewmake. There will be a cake auction and door prizes so bring your own lawn chair and enjoy. In case of rain it will be moved to the Fulton Head Start. Depot Day planned for Oct. 15

The Town of Pine Hill is planning a special homecoming festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the town’s municipal park located on Oak Grove Street. Former students, residents and other visitors are expected to join local citizens for a day of fun and fellowship on “Depot Day.” Activities will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
