Maurice Paul is running for the District 1 seat on the Clarke County Commission.
The Democratic candidate said he doesn't want to make promises he can't keep. "I will be diligent in my efforts and fair. I have enough experience to know when to say yes and I'm strong enough to say no," he said.
He served on a citizens road advisory committee that looked at road needs. "I would like to see if we can do something about paving some of these dirt roads," he said.
He said he wanted to work to improve the county and said Grove Hill especially needs help. "Grove Hill is dying right here under us. If there is anyway I could help to stop that I would do it without question," he said.
The Clarke County native is a graduate of Grove Hill Academy. He sold church furniture for Dumas Manufacturing for 14 years and works in the timber business as a contract logger.
He and his wife, Renae, live just off of the Simmons Creek Road between Grove Hill and Walker Springs.
He is the father of five daughters-Peyton, Carmen, Lindsey, Catherine and Lillian. He also has five grandchildren.
"I look forward to talking to the voters of District 1 and I will appreciate their vote on June 6," he said.
