Autry family starting DNA based geneology

Autry Family Association founder, Hector Autry, who has worked for the National Archives for more than a decade, has launched an effort to break through the 'brick walls' thrown up when the paper trail ends by doing genealogical research, using Autry DNA.Autry's personal lineage reflects eight generations of his family in Alabama, and most of them from Wilcox county, primarily in the Sunny South and Pine Hill areas.

Autry says the vast majority of all of the Autrys (of a variety of spellings) aredescendants of Cornelius Autry, Sr., who immigrated to the United States, settled in North Carolina, and his descendants migrated to theSouthern states, and then West.

"For many years in the United States, some of our faithful cousins of just about every spelling variation, spent time in the musty back rooms of old court houses hefting large books, seeking family information, "Autry said. "They sweltered in the heat of the day in cemeteries, copying information from headstones, and taking photographs."

"Other cousins embraced the awesome task of serving as authors, editors, and publishers of detailed genealogical and historical books about our family. For those monumental pages to come to fruition, many other cousins eagerly submitted pedigree charts, family group sheets, wills, land deeds, and cherished family stories. And you know what?, "Autry asked. "After all that work. After weeks, and months and... decades of the efforts of many, many cousins tracing our genealogy... we, in the United States and Mexico, STILL haven't been able to 'make the connection' back to France... to know exactly where he (Cornelius Autry, Sr.) came from and his ancestors."

Autry conceeds that there are, in fact, some Autrys (of the many spelling variations, living in the United States who are not descendants of Cornelius Autry, but, he says, "Those seem to be few and far between."

Autry goes on to say that those interested in participating in the Autry DNA Project and finding out more about Genetic Genealogy, can go to www.FamilyTreeDNA.com and put "Autry" in the search box, or go to: www.familytreedna.com/public/Autry-DNA-Project .
