God has a plan and purpose for everything

They are gone. They left this weekend. One day they were all there, the next day there were only a few, and then there were none. The hummingbirds have left Coosa Ridge and have begun their flight to Costa Rica. We miss them already, but they are not leaving us, so much as they are fulfilling God's plan for them.

All around us, in nature, God's plan for the universe He created, is being played out. Next spring the smallest birds in the world will follow an inner urge, and return to the place of their birth. The Swallows will return to Capistrano. The caterpillars will become butterflies. The salmon will swim up stream to spawn and the earth will replenish itself. The only thing out of sync in all of creation is man.

Romans 1:18-32 explains it. Even though God has placed in every person, an awareness of His being, men choose to deny God's existence, or at least His interest in them, so they won't feel obligated to obey His plan for their lives. God has a plan and a purpose for every thing He created, especially man.

He proved how much He cared for man when He sent His only Son to die for our sin. Get in touch with God and find out what He has planned for the rest of your life. Ask Him openly, with an obedient heart, and then listen to the voice that speaks to the hummingbirds. Hebrews 12:1-3 tells us to get rid of everything that gets in the way of running the race that God has given us to run, paying attention to the example of Christ so that we will not get tired and quit.

Peggy and I won't be here when the hummingbirds return. We will be in a new place fulfilling the purpose that God has given us. If it is His plan, one day we will return like the hummingbirds. We have worked hard to prepare a place here, but we'll willingly swap it for any place that He has prepared, and one day His place will be our place. We hope to see you there, in the mean time we'll see you in Church.
