TMS Tigers climb to 5-0
The Thomasville Middle School Tiger football team improved their season mark to 5-0 with a 44-6 win over the Wilson Hall Middle School Bulldogs this past Monday, October 9. The game, which was played in Thomasville at D. F. Anderson Field, was the second meeting between the two teams with the other having been another Tiger victory three weeks ago in Grove Hill. In Monday's action, Thomasville got on the scoreboard first with 5:32 to play in the first quarter when Antwan Welch scampered in from 19 yards out. Darius Bowen connected with Tyler Hayes on the two-point conversion and the Tigers led 8-0. Following a Wilson Hall fumble on their next possession that the Tigers recovered at the Bulldog 34, TMS was in the end zone quickly when Charles Taylor darted in from 13 yards out with 4:10 to play in the first. Antwan Welch added the two-point conversion and TMS led 16-0. The TMS defense got in the act next when Charles Taylor picked off a Bulldog pass and rambled 40 yards for yet another TMS touchdown. The two-point conversion came up short but the TMS lead stood at 22-0 with 2:40 to play in the first quarter. Wilson Hall was next to score, picking up a touchdown on a 68-yard run with 1:53 remaining in the first stanza. The two-point conversion failed but the Bulldogs had cut the TMS lead to 22-6. The Tigers got on the scoring track again with 6:12 remaining in the second quarter when Antwan Welch barreled in from 9 yards out. Michael Thornton added the two-point conversion and the TMS lead was 30-6. The TMS defense played a major role in both of the final scores the Tigers had. The first one, a 10 yard run by Marcus Woods with 3:38 remaining in the second quarter, was set up by a 23 yard pass interception by Marcus Woods that put the Tigers in business at the Bulldog 10 yard line. The two-point conversion attempt following Wood's score failed leaving the score at 36-6. The final score of the half and ultimately of the game came from Tiger defender John Knight when he picked up a Bulldog fumble at the 26-yard line and rumbled in for the touchdown. Michael Thornton added the two-point conversion and the scoreboard registered a 44-6 TMS lead with 1:53 remaining before intermission. That's the way it would wind up as both teams substituted freely for the remainder of the game. The TMS Tigers will now take a week off before finishing their season on the road Monday, October 23, in Demopolis. The game will be the first game of a middle school/junior varsity doubleheader and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
