Post inspections are just one of the many duties that Luther and Mae have as district commander and president. They visited post #5848 in Lisman and post #3223 in Butler on October 5th, and Mae visited post #3016 in Selma on October 3rd. A former District 10 Ladies Auxiliary President and past post 5106 ladies auxiliary president, Kathy Parnell, accompanied Mae to Selma for the post inspection there.

The Linden post #5377 and Jackson post #5355 had inspections in the month of September. The ladies auxiliary of post #5106, was done by the Deputy Chief of Staff for the VFW ladies auxiliary, Marie Sheffield of Jackson. All posts in District 10 passed their inspections.

Several members of the VFW and the ladies auxiliary gathered at the post on Columbus Day for a time of reflection, fellowship and lunch. Mr. Gilmer Beverly was recognized as being the oldest surviving member of Post 5106.

Mr. Beverly, who is 91 years of age, exhibited honor, commitment and courage in service to our country in the Pacific theatre during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946.

Attending the special Columbus Day fellowship were: Luther and Mae Pardon, Joe and Carol Newman, Peter and Norma Dalgety, Raymond Chunn, Jim Etheredge, Kathy Parnell, Mamie Nordan, Reba Garrick and guest, Cloie Drinkard.

There will be an officer's meeting on Monday October 23rd and the regular monthly VFW meeting will be on Monday, October 30th at 7 p.m. at the post.
