Worth determined by buyer
COLLECTING
By Larry Cox

Q: I have a large collection of old sheet music and would like to sell it. How do I go about it. - Arlene, Westfield, N.Y.

A: All of you with piles of sheet music, listen up. I get this question at least a dozen times each month. Jim Wiemers is a collector and can help you establish values if you provide him with photocopies of covers and postage for mail return. He has collected for more than 25 years and hosts an annual sheet music show each June in Collinsville, Ill. His addresses and telephone number are 5312 Seiler Road, Dorsey, IL 62021; weimershmusic@juno.com; and (618) 377-6379.

Q: I have a collection of cigarette lighters from the 1920s and '30s. Where can I get a fair price for them? - Jean, Attleboro, Mass.

A: Something is only worth what someone is willing to plunk down in cold, hard cash. The value of collectibles is determined by several factors including rarity, condition and demand. To get the absolute most for your lighters, I suggest you market them - one by one - on eBay.

Q: I have a boxing program from 1942 that promotes a match between Bea Jack and Lulu Costantino, plus five other bouts at the old Madison Garden in New York. Where can I have it appraised? - Robert, Palm Coast, Fla.

A: Frederick Ryan is president of Boxiana and Pugilistica Collectors International, P.O. Box 83135, Portland, OR 92763. Don Hoffman is a serious collector, P.O. Box 4231, Salinas, CA 93912.

Write to Larry Cox in care of King Features Weekly Service, P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475, or send e-mail to letters.kfws@hearstsc.com.
