Butlerfest planned for Nov. 3-4 in Butler

The City of Butler is off and running with their 3rd Annual Butlerfest/Memphis In May Sanctioned Event. This event will be held along the historic downtown square and is planned for Nov. 3-4.

There will be lots to do for all ages including a 5k run and fun walk, a car show, historical waking tour of downtown Butler, arts and crafts, food vendors, a Carnival with lots of rides, a sauce competition open to all, a Street Dance Friday and Saturday night sponsored by WINN98 and of course plenty of BBQ to go around.

The BBQ Cookoff begins Friday with the Backyard Division. This group of cookers will be dishing out some ribs and chicken for judging and is a less structured event than the Memphis In May Event. Also, Friday afternoon there will be a "Little Porkers" Challenge. This is for the young enthusiast ages 7-14. They will be building the "Ultimate Burger."

Friday will be the beginning of the Memphis In May Event. The Cookers will begin to roll into town as early as Wednesday to size up their competition. The rules and regulations for this event are very structured. The Memphis In May competitors will compete in three categories: whole hog, ribs, and shoulder. So be sure to put this event on your calendar and join in to tempt your taste buds with some fine BBQ and a whole lot of family fun on Friday and Saturday.

At this time we want to remind you all about the "Best Dressed Pig Contest." This has been a great way for Butler to advertise this event and also who off some great piggy art. Everyone purchases a pink pig head and then dresses their pig how they want but it must tell the date and time of Butlerfest somewhere on it. So remember to order your pigs from Shelia Hutchinson at 205-459-3795 or e-mail butlercityhall@tds.et. Also, you can call the Chamber of Commerce at 205-459-3459.
