Snakes on the brain or in the bed
By Diane Verhoven
DEAR DIANE

DEAR DIANE:

I am a 26-year-old male living in a rented condo with two other guys: "Dave" and "Danny." We've been roommates since college and have been in this condo for about a year and a half.

About a year ago, Dave bought a snake - some kind of python that he named "Monty." A couple of months later, Dave bought three more snakes. I don't know what species.

Last month, Danny got the Snake Bug and went out and bought himself the same kind of python as Dave has.

Did I mention that I absolutely hate snakes? I've tried countless times to tell my roomies to keep their snakes confined to their boxes and in their individual bedrooms. It hasn't worked. Dave and Danny continually bring their snakes out into the common areas of our condo, which means I have to go into my bedroom.

Then, last week, I came home from work and found one of the snakes curled up on my bed. Diane, I have had enough. What can I do to resolve this situation?

- SNAKES ON A BRAIN

DEAR SNAKES:

You know very well what you need to do. You need to find another place to live. Danny and Dave aren't going to get rid of their pets, and you can't live in the same condo with them.

If you were to go to your landlord to complain, you'll not only get rid of the snakes (maybe), but lose your friends in the process (definitely) - something I'm sure you don't want to do.

So, in order to keep your friendship with Danny and Dave, you'll need to give them notice that you'll be looking for new, snake-free digs and that they should be looking for another roommate.
