Clarke County downs Francis Marion
The Clarke County High School Bulldogs remained perfect in region play and captured a huge homecoming win as they beat the Rams of Francis Marion 56-0 last Friday night at H.G. Prim Stadium. After forcing a 13-yard punt from the Rams, CCHS started on the 38-yard line. Three plays later Terrence Frazier scored on a 1-yard run. The kick failed but the Bulldogs had scored all the points they needed with a 6-0 lead. Another three and out by the Rams' offense and the Bulldogs had the ball near mid-field. It didn't take but four plays for CCHS to again hit paydirt. Frazier found his way in to the endzone from 13-yard out for the score. Again the kick was no good, but CCHS led 12-0 with 3:46 left in the first quarter. On Francis Marion's next offensive play Duane Owens intercepted the ball for the Bulldogs at the Ram 6-yard line. On the first play Tyler Walker hit tight end Jarvis Packer with a 6-yard scoring pass. The attempt again failed as CCHS increased their lead to 18-0 with 3:14 left in the period. This time the Rams were able to get three plays off before Leonard Gildersleeve intercepted the pass for CCHS at the FM 24-yard line. Britt Chapman scored on the first play from 24-yards out. The conversion was no good, but with 1:15 left in the first Clarke County led 24-0. In the second quarter an offensive lineman's dream was answered when Ottis Jackson recovered a fumble in the endzone for the next Bulldog score. The conversion failed, but Clarke County increased their stranglehold to 30-0. Ironically the next CCHS score came courtesy of a fumble recovery as Jerome Council scooped up a Ram loose ball and returned it 64-yards for a TD. The kick was no good, making the score 36-0 with 3:54 left in the half. The Bulldog defense forced another punt on the ensuing Ram offensive possession. On the second play Dwight Chapman took the ball 41-yards for the touchdown. The kick was no good, but CCHS led 42-0 with seconds to play before halftime. In the second half the Bulldogs scored the the first two times they had the ball as Frazier took the opening offering from the Rams to start the third and returned the kick 85-yards for the score. Chapman kicked the PAT to make it 49-0. The last score of the game came when Torri Taite took the hand-off for CCHS and raced 44-yards for the touchdown. Chapman again made the kick and the Bulldogs had a 56-0 lead and eventual win. The Bulldogs (6-2, 6-0) take to the road this week as they travel to Mosses to play the Lions of Central-Hayneville (3-5, 3-3) in the last region game of the season. Game time is 7 p.m.
