Water projects moving along
By Arthur McLean
Editor

Mayor Sheldon Day reported to the water and sewer board that the city's engineers are evaluating a piece of property for a new water intake from the Alabama River. The city was forced to find its own site for water intake to serve the proposed water treatment plant after Weyerhaeuser pulled out of talks to let the city use a portion of its intake.

Day also reported the city will soon go to bid on construction of a sewer extension to the L-P plant. A portion of the projects cost will be paid out of state economic development funds, and the rest will be paid for through the water and sewer budget.
