Obituaries Ora Dean Shumate Collins Ora Dean Shumate Collins, 82, of Dixons Mills died October 28, 2006 at her home in Dixons Mills. Funeral services were held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lister Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Sweet Water Cemetery. Survivors include one step-son, Oliver Bowen (Mary) Collins, III of Mississippi; one sister, Glendora Shumate (Bill) Jones of Dixons Mills; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Alex Jones, Leon Glass, Odell Vick, Steve Shumate, Caleb Norris and Rusty Glass. Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
Theodore Roosevelt Grayson, Jr. Theodore Roosevelt Grayson, Jr., 56, of Dixons Mills died October 20, 2006 in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held October 25 at 11 a.m. at Rockbabylon Baptist Church with Rev. Norris Pauley officiating. Interment followed in the Polly Robinson Cemetery. Mr. Grayson was a truck driver, carpenter, brick mason and served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Theodore Grayson, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Vera Allen Grayson of Thomasville; three children, Sean (Bridget) Grayson, Shana (Bryant) and Sharron of Rochester, N. Y.; six grandchildren; mother, Goldia Grayson of Dixons Mills; one sister, Dr. Chinella (Wiley) Henderson of Huntsville; brothers, Edwin (Betty) Grayson of Griffin, Ga., Tommie Grayson of Atlanta, Ga. and Prestiss (Judy) Grayson North Little Rock, Ark.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Gerald Worthy, Clarence Agee, Willie James Maye, Edwin Grayson, Tommie Grayson, Prentiss Grayson. Funeral arrangements were directed by Reese Funeral Home in Thomasville.
Robert Hamilton McConnell, Jr. Robert Hamilton McConnell, Jr., 58, of Whatley died October 29, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with Rev. Johnny Harvell and Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Interment followed in the Whatley Cemetery. Mr. McConnell was a native of Whatley where he was a member of Asbury Baptist Church. He was a self-employed painter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue McConnell; one son, Bob McConnell; and his mother, Lorene Presnall. Survivors include one son, Neal McConnell of Thomasville; one daughter, Beth McConnell of Thomasville; father, Robert H. McConnell, Sr. of Whatley; three sisters, Alice Parten of Thomasville, Sheila Anderson of Perry's Chapel and Becky Cotton of Walker Springs; one brother, Billy McConnell of Whatley; and four grandchildren, Raven McConnell, Dawson McConnell, Ryleigh McConnell and Hamilton McConnell, all of Thomasville. Pallbearers were Larry Gene Sheffield, Bobby Moore, Scott Harvell, Ray Sheffield, Winkie Hicks, Kerry Stephens. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Woodyard, Charles Anderson, Mark Anderson, William McConnell, Billy Parten, Doug Parten, Keith Ray Bush, Bobby Joe Lynn and Robert Edward Garrick. Funeral arrangements were directed by Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill.
Inez Chapman Newton Inez Chapman Newton, 94, of Westover died October 23, 2006 at her home. Funeral services were held at Nanafalia Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Newton was a native of Sweet Water and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Newton; and two sons, Steve Newton and Jerry Newton. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Martin of Pine Apple; one son, Donald Newton of Clio; 10 granadchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Johnny Martin, James Morgan, Jr., Dennis Morgan, J. W. Crawford, Johnathan Hargreaves and Jimmy Lee Hamilton. Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
Margaret Bridges Reed Margaret Bridges Reed, 90, of Vineland died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Camden Nursing Facility. Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Williams officiating. Interment followed in Arbor Cemetery in Vineland. Mrs. Reed was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Max Wayne Reed of Decatur and Bobby Joe Reed of Alabaster; one daughter, Judy R. Hutto of Vineland; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Terry Smyly, Michael Moore, David Wright, Kevin Avritt, John Brunson and Ralph Autery. Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
Eula Thompson Eula Thompson, 59, of Fayette died Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Fayette Long Term Care. Funeral services were held Friday, October 20 at 11 a.m. at Fayette First Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Lamar County with her son, Rev. Blake Thomas officiating. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Jenkins Cooper; and one daughter, Paula Thompson. Survivors include her husband, Paul Thompson of Fayette; son, Blake Thompson of Fayette; three sisters, Betty Jenkins Means of Quitman, Miss., Mary Jenkins Faile of Pennington and Mattie Jenkins Killen of Meridian, Miss.; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; foster mother, Elizabeth Blakeney; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Roland Hammond, Joey Hocutt, Rick Hollingworth, Doaks Oswalt, Earl Parrish and Kerry Richardson.
Cynthia H. Tyler Cynthia H. Tyler, 58, of Pine Hill died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at her home. Graveside services were held at Kelly Cemetery in Pine Hill on Friday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Morris Hill officiating. Mrs. Tyler was a former salesperson with Alabama Wholesale Company in Pine Hill. She was preceded in death by an infant son in 1975. Survivors include her husband, Leslie Anthony Tyler of Pine Hill; two brothers, LaDon Harvell of Fulton and Rod Harvell of Vineland; and one half-brother, Woodie Beck of Pennington. Pallbearers were R. D. Tyler, Bobby Harvell, Ken Beck, Woodie "Boo Boo" Beck, Daniel Harvell and Steven Harvell. Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
