Coaching is in the blood
Arthur

I'm not sure I've ever needed a strong example of why I could never be a football coach not matter how much I like the sport, but Coach Jack Hankins provided me with one anyway Friday night in Monroeville.

After a Thomasville kick-off bounced out of bounds near a Monroe County player who at first attempted to field it, Hankins and his coaches helped the official by telling him the Monroe County player touched the ball before it went out of bounds.

When the official shook his head no, Hankins didn't even bat an eyelash, turning to his team, telling them "he didn't want to touch it, and I don't blame him."

That's some fast thinking on your feet.

Ghost Walk

For those of you who missed Ghost Walk this year, you missed what might be the best modern interpretation of an old-fashioned block party I've seen.

With a band, games for the kids and families just generally milling about and having a good time, it exemplifies some of the good things about small-town life.

It wasn't a crazy crush of people elbow to elbow, and you didn't have to worry about a purse getting snatched or a fight breaking out. It was just good clean fun.

Put a spell on you

Reuters is reporting a German woman is suing a "love witch" who failed to bring back her ex-boyfriend with chants and spells.

If you believe in love witches, I have an "uncle" in Nigeria who'd like to send you an email about a special opportunity.

On the road

If you think your life is tough, you should've taken a walk around the Circus when it was in town Sunday. Imagine rolling into a strange new town every couple of days to set up at dawn, do two physically demanding shows, break it all down at the end of the day and hit the road again to another town.

Now, imagine this schedule repeating itself for eight months. Yikes. That takes some grit and fortitude.
