Lindsey, Keahey win
By Jim CoxCo- Publisher

State Sen. Pat Lindsey, D-Butler, beat back a tough Republican opponent to win re-election Tuesday.

Lindsey defeated John McMillan of Stockton 19,682 to 16,666 votes, a 54 percent majority win in the eight county district.

The GOP had targeted the longtime Democrat but Lindsey prevailed in a bitterly fought contest.

Contacted Tuesday night, Lindsey was cautious about acknowledging a victory without all of the totals being in but said he appreciated everyone's vote and looked forward to representing the area for another four years.

This will be Lindsey's seventh term , his fifth consecutive.

Keahey wins House race

Marc Keahey of Grove Hill rolled to a big victory in another big Democratic-Republican contest.

Keahey, the Democratic, defeated over incumbent State Rep. Nick Williams, R-Sims Chapel, for the District 65 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives.

Keahey polled approximately 60 percent of the vote in the district that covers three counties to oust Williams, the first Republican to ever hold a local legislative office.

Williams was elected in an unusual three-way race last year in a special election after the death of Rep. Jeff Dolbare.

Keahey said Tuesday, "I appreciate the support of everyone who voted for me in Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties. I pledge to do my very best and to work hard for this part of the state."
