Veteran's Day service in Grove Hill Saturday VFW Post 5106 in Thomasville will hold a special Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 11am in Grove Hill at the gravesite of John R. Lavender, the first Clarke County soldier killed during WWI. Lavender, a Grove Hill native was killed on the battlefields of France in 1918. The service will be held on the 11th day of November at the 11th hour, the same date and time the armistice was signed for WWI. The service will honour the memory of all veterans of foreign wars. Lt. Colonel Terry Rivers of Mobile will be the guest speaker for the ceremony and buglar Chris Beverly will play taps . The general public is invited to attend. The ceremony is held in conjunction with the annual Pioneer Day event at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill at the intersection of Old Hwy. 84 and Hwy. 43.
