The Sweet Water Bulldogs, playing at home this past Friday, November 3, basically had their way with the American Christian Patriots from the second quarter on in their 55-14 win. The prolific Bulldog offense accumulated 531 total yards while the stingy defense limited the Patriots to only 149 yards. "We were solid in all phases of the game Friday night and our players carried out our game plan well," Bulldog Head Coach Stacy Luker said. "We were very physical and I thought both our offensive and defensive lines dominated the line of scrimmage. Defensively we probably had the best game we've had since our win over Leroy."

In the game, the Bulldogs struck pay dirt first getting on the scoreboard at the 8:11 mark of the first quarter when Drew Luker plunged in from one yard out. Ty Glass booted the extra-point and Sweet Water led 7-0.

The Patriots answered the Bulldogs on their first possession scoring on a four-yard pass with 4:18 to play in the first quarter. The extra-point was good and the score was tied 7-7.

The Bulldogs regained the lead with 1:40 to play in the first quarter when Dominic Holt barreled in from one yard out. Glass' extra-point attempt was blocked but Sweet Water led 13-7.

It was American Christian's turn next and they didn't disappoint their fans matching the Bulldogs, score again. This time it came on a two yard run with :09 left in the first quarter. The extra-point was good and American Christian led for the first time

14-13.

The Patriot lead was short lived however as the Bulldog offense took only a matter of seconds to take charge again getting in the end zone for the third time on a 24 yard Anthony Landrum scamper. Drew Luker connected with Landrum on a two point conversion and the Bulldogs were back on top 21 - 14 with 11:41 to play in the second quarter.

It was at that point the Bulldogs turned the tide for good. It started with the Bulldog defense turning in one of the biggest plays of the night.

With the Patriots facing a second and one and giving every appearance they were on their way to tying the score again, the Bulldog defense sacked the quarterback for an 18-yard loss effectively ending the drive.

The Bulldog offense, feeding off the great play of their defense, then scored for the fourth time when Anthony Landrum dove in from one yard out with 4:48 yet to play in the second quarter. Ty Glass added the extra-point and Sweet Water was on top 28-14.

Sweet Water got one more chance at points before the first half ended. The opportunity came in the final minute of play and the Bulldogs took full advantage of it scoring on a three yard pass from Drew Luker to Travis Young with :11 to play before intermission. Glass nailed the extra-point and the Bulldogs took a 35-14 lead to the locker room.

Picking up where they left off in the first half the Sweet Water defense continued their domination of the Patriot offense in the final two quarters of the game while the Bulldog offense added to their lead.

The first of the Bulldogs' second half scores came with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter when Drew Luker hooked up with Anthony Landrum on a 34 yard touchdown pass. Glass missed the extra-point but the Bulldog lead was 41-14.

Even though most of the starters were getting an opportunity to rest in the fourth quarter the Bulldog offense continued to roll scoring two more times before the game ended.

Demaraquis Williams scored the first of the two touchdowns with 11:19 to play in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard run. Glass added the extra-point and the Sweet Water lead was 48-14.

Eighth grader Desmond Bouler closed out the scoring dashing in from nine yards out with 1:09 remaining in the game. Glass added the extra-point again bringing the final score to 55-14.

The Bulldog defense, which dominated the American Christian offense, was led by the trio of Dominic Holt, Jacques Lockett, and Tyrece Lockett with five tackles each.

Over on offense Sweet Water was led on the ground by Anthony Landrum with 151 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Following him were Dominic Holt with

133 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries and Demaraquis Williams with 72 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. In the air Drew Luker was 7 for 11 for 94 yards, two touchdowns, and a two-point conversion. Leading the way on the receiving end of Luker's passes were; Travis Young with three catches for 23 yards and one touchdown, Antonio Landrum with two catches for 16 yards and Anthony Landrum with two catches for 37 yards, a touchdown and a two point conversion.

Now with the regular season completed the Bulldogs who are 8-1, will be entering the first round of the AHSAA State Playoffs as the Region 4 Champion and will be hosting the Millry Wildcats who come into the game as the four seed from Region 1. The Wildcats, who got into the playoffs after original Region 1 Champion Frisco City had to forfeit seven games because of an ineligible player, will enter the game as a decided under dog. But as Bulldog Coach Stacy Luker knows you can't look past any opponent. "It is true Millry hasn't had the kind of season they are accustomed to but they have been to the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons and as a battle tested program there is no doubt in their mind that they will be ready when the opening whistle blows," Stacy Luker said. "They also have one of the best, if not the best, running back we will have seen this year. I'm sure Coach Teddy Taylor will remind them of the rivalry that exists between Millry and Sweet Water as well."

The Bulldogs and Wildcats are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 9, at Nolan Atkins Stadium.
