Spiritual Reflections
There is life without TV
Pat
Ozment, Jr.

I'm about to share a truth that could be life changing for some of you. I apologize to those of you who already know it. You can go read a "Good Book", while I tell everyone else. Here it is. There is life without TV.

When my wife and I entered the grounds of the MLC, (Missionary Learning Center), with 191 others, to begin FPO, (Field Personal Orientation) with the IMB, (International Mission Board), to become RLM's, (Real Live Missionaries), we discovered there are no TV's on the place. That means there is no NBC, CBS, ABC, CTN, ESPN, TNT, TCM, MSNBC, or CNN, which means there is no CSI, SVU, NCIS, NCAA, NFL, or NBA. Just in case you're wondering you can't bring your DVD's or your VCR's either.

Three weeks have passed. Here is what is so amazing. With the exception of a few Saturday afternoons, sniff, sniff, I have not missed the Idiot box. How long has it been since your life was completely commercial free? For three weeks I've not seen the little green talking lizard.

No one has tried to brainwash me into buying the truck of my dreams, or offered to sell my house. No one has told me to rub anything, "directly on my forehead," and I have not overheard a single idiotic conversation, by the two imbeciles who hang out at the last remaining drive-in restaurant. No one has asked me if I suffer from bloating, constipation, or chronic diarrhea, and I have not been insulted by a single sit-com. I am free!

You might inquire as to what I do with my new freedom. Well for starters, I am discovering that my roommate is a truly remarkable lady. Together we've come to realize that in a few weeks we will be, far, far away, where we will be the only people we know. That has stimulated our level of conversation, with each other, and with God.

TV is not all bad, but it gets in the way of stuff thats better, like reading 1 John 2:15-17. Turn the TV off for a week. Spend some quality time with the ones you love, and the One who loves you, and maybe

I'll see you in church.
