Despite taking the highly favored South Lamar Stallions to the wire the Marengo Panthers came up on the short end of a 14-6 decision in their first round playoff matchup last Friday, November 10.

In the game itself the Stallions took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter and made it stand up until the Panthers got on the board on a Keldred Bouler run in the third quarter to tie the game 6-6. The Stallions then regained the lead late in the third with another touchdown and a two-point conversion to go on top 14-6. A late rally by the Panthers in the fourth quarter came up short leaving the final at 14-6.

Keldred Bouler led the Panther offense in the losing effort with 132 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries followed by Ronnie Hildreth with 105 yards on 14 carries and P. J. Brown with 32 yards on eight carries.

Over on defense Kaylos Pritchett led the charge with 12 tackles followed by Keldred Bouler with eight, Jeremy Bouler with seven and Quentin Bouler with six.

With the loss the Panthers who finished the year 6-4 saw their season come to a close. It also brings with it the end of a high school football career for seniors; Donald (P. J.) Brown, Keldred Bouler, Quentin Bouler, Ronnie Hildreth and Kenneth Jones. "I want to thank this group of seniors for setting the tone for the young players that will be coming back next year," Jones said. "We will miss all of them not only for what they brought to the team athletically but for their leadership as well. I believe being able to play with that group this year helped our younger players grow up some and will be an impetus for their continued growth in the off season and next spring."

As for the rest of the squad, the end of the season marks the end of the beginning of what Coach Scottie Jones feels will be a future filled with promise. "We will have our entire offensive line back next season and many other young players who had to step in and play some at other positions," Coach Jones continued. "We feel like they made a lot of progress from August to November and we look forward to having them continue their learning process in the spring. We also plan on putting emphasis on them getting stronger during the off season."

In wrapping things up Jones expressed thanks to all his players on this year's team for playing hard all season and thanked the fans for their positive support throughout the year.
