Mr. Football finalists Three area players up for top honors

Three area football players have been selected as finalists for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Back and Lineman of the Year awards.

Sweet Water High School, in Class 1A, has both a back and lineman finalist. Anthony Landrum is joined by Jamie Hampton of Cedar Bluff and Terrance Wilkes of Wadley in vying for back of the year.

Dominic Holt is joined by Jeffrey Daniels of Brantley and Austin Hayes of Cedar Bluff for the lineman of the year.

Thomasville's Jake Overstreet os one of the three back finalists in Class 4A.

Overstreet will be going against Marquis Chapel of Dora and Jake Welch from Alexandria.

A panel of 15 writers from across the state selected 42 finalists from over 200 nominations.

The winners will be announced at a banquet on the campus of Birmingham Southern on Thursday, Dec. 14.
