Parade coming Dec. 2
By Arthur McLean

There's still time to register a float in this year's Christmas parade.

And for those eyeing a prize this year, organizer Edmon McKinley said there would be some stiff competition. "I've already hear from a number of float builders this year and many of the floats will be very well done," he said.

The theme for this year's parade is "A Christmas Fantasy."

New for this year, McKinley said owners of antique cars are invited to join the parade.

To enter or volunteer with working the parade, call Edmon McKinley's office at 636-4882, or the Southwest Alabama Chamber of Commerce at 636-1542.

Participants will be able to get their parade number after 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1. Floats, with riders and drivers will have to be in their designated spot by 9 a.m. parade day.

All floats are asked to have a sign on each side of the float to identify the parading group and the float's name. It is recommended to bring a minimum of 10-15 pounds of candy.

McKinley said he's expecting at lest 80 floats this year, in what is becoming the largest Christmas parade in southwest Alabama.

Floats will be judged based on authenticity, theme, costume, construction and scenic design, and a grand prizewinner.

The route through downtown Thomasville will be the same as previous years.
