Spiritual Reflections
Depend on the Gospel
Pat
Ozment, Jr.

I hate umbrellas. First of all I hate them because I never have one when I need it. I mean I always have one, but when it's raining cats and dogs, my umbrella is where it belongs, in the trunk of my car.

I hate umbrellas because if you carry one, expecting a shower it won't, and if you don't, it will. I hate umbrellas because people, other than yours truly, carry them to football games when it rains, and they poke you in the eye with one of its corners, while otherwise blocking your view, and causing all the water to run off of it, and down in the collar of your rain coat.

I hate umbrellas because that's the last place you ever look for the car keys, and that's a favorite place for your two year old to put them. The main reason I hate umbrellas is, they are not very good at doing what you depend on them to do. You can have the best umbrella that money can buy, and still get wet from the waist down.

About the only thing an umbrella will keep dry is your head, and if a gust of wind catches the thing, like it did mine the other day, your head gets as wet as the rest of you. I hate things that don't fulfill their purpose. That's why I hate umbrellas, and I love the Gospel.

The Gospel has one purpose, and that is to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Gospel tells us that God loves us, but we all are separated from Him by our sin. It says the punishment for sin is death, but it goes on to tell us that God the Son, came to earth as Jesus Christ, and paid for all our sin with His death. It tells us the good news, that Christ was raised after three days, and that any who will, can receive forgiveness of their sin, by turning from it, and believing in Him.

If you depend on an umbrella you could get wet all over. If you depend on the Gospel you will get saved all over. See you in Church.
