Guidelines for letters to the newspaper
Though a certified petition requesting an alcohol sales vote has yet to be presented

to the council, most believe it is only a matter of time before it happens.

We are again seeing the number of statements submitted to The Thomasville Times regarding the issue to be increasing.

We have decided to handle these statements in much the same way our sister paper in Jackson did when that city tackled the issue of alcohol sales.

We will accept letters to the editor from individuals and will make every effort to publish as many per week as space provides. We will also make efforts to publish letters to the editor in the order in which we receive them.

Any groups wishing to publish statements in The Thomasville Times regarding this issue will need to purchase the appropriate amount of space for their message. You may contact Tonya Joyce for rates.

We want to give everyone who desires it, an opportunity to have their say on the issue. This arrangement seemed to work well in Jackson, and we believe it was fair to everyone.

Please remember our guidelines for submitting letters to the editor. All letters must by signed by the writer and list the community in which they reside. Slanderous and libelous letters will not be published.

Letters submitting statistics regarding the issue must also cite the source of those statistics in a manner that would make verification possible.

Letters referencing statistics without clearly citing the source will be held until such time as the source can be verified by the writer and appropriate citations included in the letter.
