The Sweet Water Bulldogs piled up 505 yards of total offense while holding the Sunshine Tigers to only two yards of offense in their 55-0 win last Friday, November 24. In the game, which was played at Nolan Atkins Stadium in Sweet Water, the Bulldogs scored at least two touchdowns in all four quarters of the game. "1 am very proud of the effort our players gave in the game with Sunshine," Bulldog Head Coach Stacy Luker said. "We were very physical on both sides of the ball and took care of business like we were supposed to. Our defense was particularly dominant and got control of the game early."

The first score by the Bulldogs came with 7:53 remaining in the first quarter when Dominic Holt barreled in from six yards out. Ty Glass added the extra-point and Sweet Water was out to an early 7-0 lead.

The Bulldogs added to their lead late in the first period when Anthony Landrum rambled 50 yards for the Bulldogs second touchdown. Glass was on the mark with the extra- point again and the Sweet Water lead was extended to 14- 0 as the scoreboard registered :47 to play in the quarter.

While the Bulldog defense was playing stuff the Tiger, the offense continued to put points on the board scoring twice in the second quarter as well. The first of the two touchdowns in the quarter came with 9:31 to play when Bulldog quarterback Drew Luker hooked up with Heath Hill on a 20 yard scoring strike. Glass nailed the extrapoint and the Bulldog lead stood at 21-0.

Dominic Holt capped off the scoring in the first half when he plunged in from two yards out with 1:20 left to play before intermission. Glass' broke his string on successful extrapoints but the Bulldogs led 27- 0 as the teams retired to the locker rooms.

The third quarter began a lot like the first half ended with the Bulldogs in complete command of the game. The defense continued to stifle the Sunshine offense while the Bulldog offense continued to roll along.

Drew Luker and Heath Hill combined to add to the Sweet Water lead at the 6:45 mark of the third quarter when the quarterback connected with his wing back on a 30 yard touchdown pass. Glass booted the extra-point through and the Sweet Water lead was 34-0.

The Bulldogs special teams were next to get in on the scoring when Jacques Lockett blocked a Tiger punt resulting in a safety. With the two points added to the score Sweet Water held a 36-0 lead with 4:27 remaining in the third period.

Following the free kick by Sunshine the Bulldog offense went back to work scoring one more time before the third period ended. Dominic Holt recorded his third touchdown of the night to complete the drive darting in from 11 yards out with 1:31 to play. Glass' extrapoint try was true and the Bulldogs led 43-0.

In keeping with what they believe, the Bulldogs didn't just give lip service to the old saying "the fourth quarter is ours" but said it with their actions instead. Just as they had done in the first three quarters, they dominated the final quarter as well despite substituting quite a bit.

Dominic Holt got one more opportunity to add to the Bulldog lead and took advantage of it, scrambling 21 yards for the touchdown with 10:08 left in the game. The extrapoint attempt by Glass was blocked leaving the Bulldogs with a 49-0 lead.

Freshman Johnny Lockett rounded out the Sweet Water scoring with 3:30 remaining in the game when he raced nine yards to pay dirt. The extrapoint attempt by Glass was no good making the final score 55- 0.

Leading the Bulldog ground attack, that logged 361 yards, was Anthony Landrum with 173 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. Dominic Holt followed him with 116 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries. In the air Drew Luker had a fine night completing five of nine passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Leading receivers for the Bulldogs were Heath Hill with two catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns and Travis Young with two catches for 55 yards.

Over on defense Dominic Holt and Johnny Lockett set the pace recording eight tackles a piece while Anthony Landrum recorded seven.

With the quarter-final win the Bulldogs improved their season record to 11-1 and secured as spot in a semi-final match-up with 12-0 Maplesville who defeated a previously unbeaten and top ranked Brantley squad. The Bulldogs will be on the road in the game with the Red Devils playing in a town that knows something about winning football games. "Maplesville has a great tradition in lA football," Coach Stacy Luker said. "They are big and fast and have some of the best skill players we have seen all season. We need to remain focused and be at our best in all phases of the game against them."

The game between the Bulldogs and Red Devils is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff this Friday, Dec. 1, in Maplesville.
