New town clerk in Grove Hill

Michele Floyd is moving from being an urban forester for a multi-county area to town clerk for Grove Hill. Mayor Lamar Hudson announced the appointment Monday night.

The post has been vacant since the death of longtime Town Clerk Edd Stifflemire a few months ago.

Floyd, who lives in Hobson in Washington County, has a degree in horticulture but said she took accounting and business courses as part of her degree work.

She said she is apprehensive about taking the job but is looking forward to it and she hopes she can help the town.

She has worked with Grove Hill during the last two years on urban landscaping issues, most recently on an extensive revitalization plan for the downtown area. The town has applied for a federal grant to do the project.
