TMS Ladies continue torrid pace The Thomasville Middle School Lady Tigers moved to 7-0 last week with a pair of road wins over in-county rivals Wilson Hall and Jackson Middle School. The first of the two wins came on Monday, November 27 in Grove Hill where the TMS Ladies got the best of the Wilson Hall Lady Bulldogs 42-38. The second win came on Thursday, November 30, in the south end of the county where the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Aggies of Jackson Middle School 37-31. The game with Wilson Hall was definitely a study in stark contrasts. In the first half, the usually high-energy Lady Tigers, playing with little or no emotion and very little energy, fell behind the Lady Bulldogs 21 - 13. “We were very lethargic in the first half,” Coach Jim Sims said. “We haven’t given up that many points in a half all season. Thankfully, the second half was a different story as we held them to only one point in the third quarter and rallied to regain the lead. I’m proud of this group for battling back and finding a way to win in the second half.” Leading the TMS offense against Wilson Hall with her third double/double performance this season was Kyera Rowe with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Following her in the scoring category was Amber Coston with nine points, Mahalia Crawford with five, and Jasmine Brackett with three while Crystal Calhoun and Shan Washington added two apiece. On the boards Brackett was next with seven followed by Coston with six. Coston led the team in assist with four followed by Crawford and Rowe with two each and steals with seven followed by Crawford, Rowe and Washington with two apiece. The game with JMS was a battle from start to finish with the Lady Aggies holding an 5-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and then staying within striking distance even after the Lady Tigers took over the lead in the second quarter. “The atmosphere at Jackson was intense and the Lady Aggies brought the fight to us all night,” Lady Tiger Coach Jim Sims said, “I was very proud of the way we kept our composure, hustled and dug deep when things got tough. It was a great effort by our players.” Kyera Rowe led the Lady Tigers once again in scoring and rebounding, pumping in 14 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Following her in scoring was Amber Coston with 13 points while Natalie Washington and Shan Washington had four points and Reyshawndre Washington had two. On the boards Coston pulled down five and Shan Washington had four to follow Rowe. Coston and Rowe tied in the assist category with two each.
The TMS Ladies were scheduled to host JMS on Monday, Dec. 4, and Wilson Hall on Tuesday, December 5 in games this week before wrapping up their season on Tuesday, Dec. 12, with another home game against the Lady Bulldogs from Wilson Hall.
