Spiritual Reflections
God has placed love in our hearts
Pat Ozment, Jr.
January the fourth, Peggy and I will step onto the sun-baked soil of Ghana in West Africa. It’s hard to believe, but the reality of it is beginning to sink in. Last week we were informed that our request for Visas have been approved. Then we received word this past week that a house has been secured for us in Tamale. With the help of IMB’s business facilitator in Accra, Ghana, we were able to purchase two air conditioners.

We learned the house has running water and an indoor bathroom, but no hot water. We will have to filter or boil any water we drink. We will have a washing machine, but no dryer. All that makes it more real. Yesterday we received our airline tickets.

We have had all our shots, and we have been given antimalaria medicine that we will begin taking Christmas Eve. This past week we attended three days of training on what to do if we are taken hostage or kidnapped. That was a reality check for sure. Then we had several days of training on “Storying.” Some of my family could tell you that I am a champion storyteller, but this is something different. It involves sharing the gospel with illiterate people by telling Bible stories.

The reality of it is coming home, especially when fear strikes me from out of nowhere. The fear tells me, “this is real.” It ask me, “are you sure?” When the fear comes, I go to the only place I can for the answer.

Romans 10:14-15 says, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” The real sign of the reality of it all, is that God has placed a love in our hearts for the Dagomba people, that is stronger than all the devil’s fear.

See you in Church.
