Opine-Tallahatta Springs volunteer firefighters complete firefighter course

The Opine-Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Firefighters completed the Firefighter Type 2 (S130, S-190, 1-100) course, which is a 32 hour certified course. The course was taught by Randy Kinman, Southwest Regional Fire Specialist with the Alabama Forestry Commission with Tim Kelley assisting. The purpose of this course was to provide the volunteer firefighters with wildland fire behavior knowledge applicable for safe and effective fire management activities. The course was very informative regarding wildland fires, their characteristics and interactions of the wildland fire environment (fuels, weather and topography) that affect wildland fire behavior for safety purposes. It covered information such as, fire causes, problems that can occur on fire sites, skills and equipment needed to properly fight and extinguish fires, communication and firefighter safety. Each individual attending received literature which will be extremely beneficial to them as a firefighter.
