Area wrecks claim two lives

Two traffic fatalities took place within a few miles of each other on Hwy. 18 in Wilcox County last week.

On Dec. 27, a car driven by Ashley Bouham, 16, of Pine Hill lost control and crashed. Ten-year-old Keiondra Nickerson was partially ejected from the car and died from her injuries, according to an Alabama Highway Patrol report.

Other passengers in the car included Tyronica Nickerson, 11, Termaine Nickerson, 14, Makayal Jones, 5, and Ciquon Jones, 2, all of Pine Hill.

The passengers wer seriously injured and taken to Southwest Alabama Medical Center, according to information released by the Highway Patrol. Sources said several of the children were still in critical condition.

The initial report stated that the car was traveling down Alabama Highway 18 at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the car.

In a second accident along the same stretch of road, John Corey Johnson, 37, of Mobile, lost control of his truck, hit a bridge and fell into the waters below, submerging the truck. Johnson was killed in the accident.
