.Year in Arts" calendar available

Alabama Tourism's 2007 Calendar of Events features 1,400 annual and special events, including more than 600 associated with The Year of Alabama Arts.

The 96-page magazinesize publication also contains short features that highlight Saturday walking tours in 30 towns in June, barbecue competitions, flea markets, and trade days.

Listings of arts-related events are printed in red so

that travelers can more easily find cultural fairs, musical productions and performances during the celebration of the arts, said calendar editor Marilyn Stamps. "We want visitors to build memorable experiences while traveling in Alabama," she said.

The Year of Alabama Arts, a cooperative program between Alabama Tourism and the Alabama State Council on the Arts, is the latest in a series of annual

themed campaigns designed to showcase the best of what Alabama has to offer. "We are proud to be partnering with the Arts Council in this celebration," said tourism director Lee Sentell. "They do a great job in promoting various aspects of the arts in Alabama and this is an opportunity for us to jointly promote all elements of the arts in one comprehensive year to tourists and travelers," he added.

Two companion pieces to the Alabama Calendar of Events, the official 2007 "Alabama Vacation Guide" and the "Must-See Arts Destinations" brochure are also available from the tourism agency.
