2007: a year of potential for T'ville
In many ways, 2007 will begin the same way as 2006 did in Thomasville: with growth on the horizon and big questions waiting for answers.

Last year at this time, Thomasville was still feeling good about landing the Louisiana-Pacific plant and looking forward to a boom in residential housing.

Along the way, the town also picked up the LIFE Tech center, and dealt with the issue of whether or not to have zoning in this community.

In 2007, Thomasville will likely deal with the question of legalizing alcohol sales in this community, and announcements of more employers coming here are expected.

For Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day, 2007 also starts off much like 2006 did, full of the promise of growth and economic vitality for his town.

Over the years we've heard from those who suffer from what we'll call "Sheldon fatigue," who grow weary of his seemingly boundless optimism and his take-no-prisoners approach to economic development.

And there have been times when Day's enthusiasm to get things done seems to get the best of him.

But no one is perfect, and the positive developments Thomasville has seen over the past few years would certainly seem to outweigh the short-sighted or just badly planned decisions that were also made along the way.

The calendar has turned and another year is upon us, a year of possibilities and potential, and that seems to suit Mayor Day just fine.
