From the Editor's Desk
Tea leaves, tarot cards, runes, crystal balls, palm reading, astrology and more have all been man's feeble attempts to divine the future. Here's an excerpt from my horoscope for 2007 (Aquarius if you're interested): You have a tremendous drive for independence and don't like to work for other people as much as having your own business, so you may be motivated to think about how to manifest a new business. Your career may take on more of a passionate way of using your intuitive abilities to get to the inner meaning of things. Your efforts will allow new resources to evolve in your life and lead to the greater good…. Your magnetic personality will bring you a good match who will be equally giving and excited to have a whirlwind of passion, love and joy in life. Do I believe it? Why not. But you might as well believe it for yourself, no matter what your sign is. That's about how generic these things are. Who wouldn't like to work for themselves? Who wouldn't like to hear that they're going to attract a good match in the coming year? So, go ahead and take this reading, even if you're a Taurus or whatever. I can pretty well assure you that no astrology reading would have indicated that I would wind up here. When I started this profession out of college, I thought I'd be working at some bigcity newspaper by now. That prediction never panned out, but I realize that it would likely not have suited me well anyway. Of course, as we grow and change, other predictions and preconceptions begin to fall by the wayside, often replaced by things more interesting or rewarding. But the big surprise is that they're often never what's expected. I could have never predicted who I would meet during my time here. Nor could I have predicted that I would see things in them now that I hadn't before. And yet, some long-time friendships have gone by the wayside in the past years. Again, we never truly know what lies up the road from us. So, I'm not going to try to guess at what 2007 might hold for me. I have desires and goals just like you, but there's almost always a big surprise in store, and we often don't understand the impact of those things until later. When it comes, the best I can hope for is that I'll be able to make the most of it. But just in case there's something to it, I did eat black-eyed peas Monday. Can't hurt. I just want a little bit of it
As a breaking news addendum, we just heard the unofficial news that Nick Saban has reportedly taken the Alabama job. I wouldn't be a college football coach for anything. But I'd love to be Saban's agent right now.
