OBITUARIES
Wesley Irvin Atkins, 29, died December 6, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church in Thomasville with Rev. James G. Curry officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Atkins attended school in Birmingham where he graduated from West End High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Willie and Mattie Cade. Survivors include one son, Keoni Atkins of Birmingham; his mother, Marilyn Atkins of Birmingham; his father, Anthony Atkins of Hartford, Conn.; grandmother, Betty Cleveland of Hartford; three sisters, Michelle Atkins of Birmingham, Chantel and Samantha Atkins, both of Hartford; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were family and friends. Flowerbearers family and friends. Funeral arrangements were directed by Mosley Funeral Home in Thomasville. Dorothy L. Westbrook Aydelott Dorothy Louise Westbrook Aydelott, well known community leader, and the oldest member of a long-time Marengo family, died at Old Town Home, December 29, 2006. "Dot", the youngest of George H e a t h Westbrook and Lulie Hays C o m p t o n Westbrook's eight children was born March 7, 1909 in Nanafalia. Dorothy Westbrook Aydelott While Dot was in her teens, the Westbrook family, one of strong Baptist faith, moved to Linden where she graduated from Linden High School on May 31, 1927. Following high school graduation, she entered and completed studies at a Montgomery Business College. Dot and her late husband, O. Larimore Aydelott, had no children of their own, but took at age three and one-half, a maternal nephew and reared him as their only child. In later years, the daughter, Dorothy Cook Purser (Kramer), born to Alonzo and his wife, became Mrs. Aydelott's granddaughter. Additional survivors are numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Aydelott and her husband, after purchasing "Westbrook's General Store," Linden, were engaged in the mercantile business. For several decades, Mrs. Dot was a clerk in the Marengo County Probate Office; first, for her uncle-inlaw, Judge Alonzo L. Hasty, and in later years for her brother, Judge Robert James (Shine) Westbrook. Dot was generous with her civic duties. She was the first female elected to the office of Linden City Council, and served several terms in this position. She was later appointed to the Marengo County Board of Registrars and continued for a number of terms in this capacity. The deceased was a charter member of the Linden Business and Professional Women's Club when it was organized in Linden in 1961. Mrs. Aydelott served the local organization as its first President, was a District Director, and served in other positions on the local, district and state levels of BPW. On one occasion, she was selected at the state's "Woman of the Year" for BPW. Her home was adorned with creations of handiwork and she enjoyed sharing results of this talent with her family and friends. Growing flowers was an interest. Even in later years, before leaving her home on Shiloh Street due to declining health, she had on her kitchen windowsill an African violet garden. Mrs. Aydelott was interred beside her husband in Linden Memorial Gardens. Rev. H. Grady Goodman, Jr., pastor of Round Hill Baptist Church in Thomasville, assisted by Rev. Ed Picket of Demopolis, Southern Care Hospice, officiated at the Jan. 1 service. O'Bryant Funeral Home in Thomasville was in charge of arrangements. Memorial offerings may be made to Southern Care Hospice in Demopolis, Old Town Home in Linden, the Cancer Society or the church or charity of your choice. The family is especially appreciative of Old Town Home, Southern Care Hospice, and Dr. Paul Ketchum for the wonderful care given their mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Virginia McKeller Boykin Virginia McKeller Boykin, 85, a native of Frankville and a resident of Monroeville died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the home of her daughter. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 12 noon at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Frankville with Rev. Richmond Chaney officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Boykin was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church of Frankville where she served as a Sunday School teacher, director of the Baptist Training Union, President of the Senior Missionaries and manager of the church cafeteria. Survivors include four sons, Larry James Boykin, George Franklin Boykin and Michael Joe Grimes, all of Frankville and Robert Charles (Angela) Boykin of Thomasville; five daughters, Jenice (Nathaniel) Biggs of Sweet Water, Vernice (Porter) Boman of Frankville, Lou Ida Boykin of Monroeville, Wilhemenia Boykin and Beulah Boykin, both of Montgomery; and five grandchildren. Margaret Joann Jones Margaret Joann Jones, 71, of Shiloh died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ken Fields officiating. Interment followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Shiloh. Mrs. Jones was a native of Nicholsville. She was a seamstress for Vanity Fair and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Missy Jones and Dusty Autery. Survivors include her husband, Joe Jones of Shiloh; two sons, Buddy Jones and Carl Ray (Regina) Jones, both of Shiloh; two daughters, Kay (Ronnie) Autery of Shiloh and Brenda (Buddy) Stephens of Miller; one brother, Billy Jack (Jerri) Harris of Linden; one sister, Annette Cody of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren and one greatgranchild. Pallbearers were Dale Jones, Richard Hill, Gerald Smith, Lee Cody, Alvin Jones and Troy Strickland. Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Tahishia Young Lewis Tahishia Young Lewis, 34, died December 24, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. at Church of God Pentecostal in Dixons Mills with Bishop Larry J. Hudson, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in Payne's Chapel Cemetery in Sweet Water. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Church of God Pentecostal in Dixons Mills. She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Ray Lewis, Jr.; her grandparents, Henri and Joyce Young and Jimmie and Lillie Griffin; her mother-inlaw, Osteen Lewis Hudson; and her great-grandmother, Missionary Gertrude Keels. Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Randy Ray Lewis, Sr.; five children, Nakarra, Taiyunda, Randy III, Jo'Laria and Rayna; two sisters, Shameeka Lewis of Dixons Mills and Lakeisa Griffin of Mobile; one brother, Courtney Griffin of Dixons Mills; four sisters-in-law, Michelle Charley of New York, Shannon, Kennyelle and Kenyetta Aninston, all of Detroit, MIch.; five brothers-in-law, Gregory (Audrey) Lewis of Arizona, Anthony Charley of Detroit, Roosevelt Charley, Jr. of New York, Scott and Andrea Lewis, both of Dixons Mills; uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers were Lionel Young, Alex Young, Michael Young, Randy Lewis, Scottie Lewis, Andrea Lewis and Gregory Lewis. Active pallbearers were cousins and friends. Funeral arrangements were directed by Mosley's Funeral Home in Thomasville. Ira Hosea Lockett Ira Hosea Lockett, 96, a native of Dixons Mills died December 29, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. at Rockbabylon M.B. Church in Dixons Mills with Bishop T. D. Lockett officiating. Interment followed in the Polly Robinson Cemetery in Dixons Mills. Mrs. Lockett was a founding member of Faith Temple Church of God Number Two in Dixons Mills. She was the first licensed foster-care provider in Marengo County. She was a companion and caregiver for the elderly. Mrs. Lockett was married to Robert Lockett in 1927 and eight children were born, three of which preceded her in death, Otis, Robert, Jr. and Velma (Perry). Survivors include three daughters, Betty Swain of Syracuse, N.Y., Polly (Woodrow) Tignor and Gwen McCaskey, both of Dixons Mills; two sons, Roy Lee Lockett of Syracuse and Bishop T. D. (Quella) Lockett of Kalamazoo, Mich.; one daughter in-law, Ida Lockett; one sonin law, Robert Perry; two devoted grandchildren; six extended children; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Johnnie Lee May Quinney Johnnie Lee May Quinney, 79, of Linden died Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Marengo County Nursing Home in Linden. Funeral services were held at Providence Baptist Church in Gallion on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Fred Freeman officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Quinney worked for Dr. Gerald Williams and at Marengo County Nursing Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Gallion and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Survivors include one son, Jim Russell Quinney of Linden; daughter-in-law, Barbara Quinney of Linden; one brother, John Thomas May of Slidell, La.; one sister, Laura Louise Howe of Niceville, Fla. and one granddaughter, Rebecca Joy Quinney of Auburn. Active pallbearers were Harold Quinney, Jr., Joe Press Quinney, Dale Quinney, Charles H. (Buddy) Hasty, Tony Jacobs and Clarence E. Mary Lee Welch Mary Lee Welch, 97, a native of Lower Peach Tree died Friday, December 22, 2006. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at A.O.H. Church of God in Lower Peach Tree with Overseer Jessie Henry officiating. Interment followed at St. Thomas A.M.E. Church of Lower Peach Tree. Mrs. Welch was a member of A.O.H. Church of God in Lower Peach Tree. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brown Welch; two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include one sister; three sister-in-laws; Retha Marshall of Chance, Lillion Carter of Mobile and Dot Dotson of Cincinnati, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. William Howard Windham William Howard Windham, 58, of Linden died Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Gandy and Rev. Micah Gandy officiating. Interment followed at New Octagon Cemetery in Linden. Mr. Windham was retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked as a machine tender and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, James Windham; and one brother, David Windham. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Windham of Linden; one daughter, Kristin Windham of Linden; one son, Jon (Kim) Windham of Linden; mother, Helen Cleary of Butler; stepfather, Jack Cleary of Butler; one sister, Janice Bailey of Butler; two brothers, Al Windham of Demopolis and John Windham of Butler; two grandchildren, Kevin Windham and Christopher Windham, both of Linden. Pallbearers were Tyler Windham, Cory Windham, Tait Windham, Henry Vick, George Lewis, Tony Lewis, Billy Lewis and Adam Lewis.
