Lady Tigers win first area games
Leading the charge for Thomasville on defense with four steals apiece were;Ashley Crawford and Ebony Early followed by Tamara Robinson and Nicole Washington with three each. Early also contributed three blocked shots to the defensive effort while Shelby Crawford blocked two. Over on offense Early was the scoring leader for the Lady Tigers with 10 points followed by Sondra Lanier with seven and Candrea Welch with four. Rounding out the scoring with two points each were; Ashley Crawford, Shelby Crawford, Keenya Martin,Shaneka Nicholson, Tamara Robinson, Nicole Washington and Dominic Watters. On the boards Early was again the leader with nine followed by Martin with eight, Lanier with seven and Robinson with five. Martin and Washington were the assist leaders for Thomasville registering two each. The Lady Tigers were also successful over the Christmas break picking up a home win against the Ladies from Choctaw County on Tuesday, December 19 and then a pair of wins in the Jackson High School Invitational Tournament. In the home win over the visiting Lady Tigers from Choctaw County, Thomasville took a 26-12 lead into the locker room at half time and turned it into a 49-25 victory. Shelby Crawford was the scoring leader in the game for Thomasville pouring in nine points. Following her was Ebony Early with eight points, Keenya Martin with seven points, Tamara Robinson with six points, and Candrea Welch with four.Seven other Thomasville Ladies contributed points to the total including: Nicole Washington with three; Ashley Crawford, Sondra Lanier, Shaneka Nicholson, Brianna Penn, Britney Stallworth and Twarner Witherspoon with two. On the boards Early had 10rebounds followed by Shelby Crawford with six to lead the way. Nicole Washington was the assist leader for the Thomasville Ladies with three. Over on defense Martin and Washington led the charge with four steals apiece followed by Shelby Crawford and Robinson with three each. Early added one blocked shot for the Thomasville defense. By the luck of the draw Thomasville and Choctaw County were matched against each other one night later, Wednesday, December 20, in the first round of the Jackson Invitational Tournament. The match-up marked the third time the two teams had met in an eight day span. Just as it had been in both of the other two outings against the girls from Butler,the Thomasville girls added another win to their season total blasting Choctaw County 46- 14. Playing great defense from the opening tip Thomasville raced out to a 27-6halftime lead and never looked back. On offense the Thomasville Ladies who shot 44% from the floor but only 60% from the free throw line were led by Ebony Early with 15 points and Sondra Lanier with 10. Following them were; Shelby Crawford with six, Britney Stallworth with five and Candrea Welch with four. Rounding out the scor- ing with two points each were; Shaneka Nicholson, Tamara Robinson, and Nicole Washington. Early was the leader on the boards as well with nine followed by Lanier with six, Robinson and Stallworth with four. Nicholson was the assist leader with five followed by Washington with three. The Thomasville defense was also led by Early with three steals and a blocked shot while teammates Nicholson and Washington had two steals apiece and Shelby Crawford and Keenya Martin had one blocked shot each. The Lady Tigers finished play in the Jackson Tourney with a 52-41 win over the host Lady Aggies. Once again the Lady Tigers got off to a good start holding a 25- 14 lead at intermission and then holding off the Lady Aggies down the stretch. Ebony Early had the hot hand for the Lady Tigers scoring 17 points on the Lady Aggies while Keenya Martin dropped in 11 points and Dominic Watters tallied nine, Shelby Crawford added six points, Ashley Crawford four points, Tamara Robinson three points and Nicole Washington two points to round out the scoring. Early also led the team on the boards with eight rebounds followed by Watters with six and Ashley Crawford with five. Martin and Washington were the assist leaders with four each. Over on defense Washington led the pesky Thomasville defense with three steals while Early had two and Watters one.
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play their second area game of the season this past Friday, January 5, when they hit the road to Atmore to play the Lady Blue Devils. After that they were slated to begin a seven game home stand kicking it off against Clarke County on Saturday, January 6. This week the Lady Bulldogs from UMS-Wright were due in on Tuesday, January 9 followed by the Lady Aggies from Jackson on Friday, January 12 and the Lady Panthers of Coffeeville on Saturday, January 13.
