Texas man arrested in car theft case Clarke County sheriff's deputies arrested a Texas man for stealing a truck and believe he may be responsible for other thefts in Clarke and Washington Counties. Harlan Mark Bolen was employed at Southwest Alabama Construction, but was fired. Shortly after his termination a 1984 Jeep Wagoneer was stolen from James Smith, who also works for SAC. Deputies received a tip that Bolen had taken the vehicle. They found Bolen and recovered the vehicle. While searching for the Wagoneer, according to Chief Investigator Ron Baggett, they also found a variety of professional tools, a fourwheeler and a hunting rifle. A search of Bolen's vehicle turned up burglary tools and keys. Baggett also found a box with a clear Ziplock bag containing a powdery substance with white chips in it. "I thought we had found some dope, but I kept looking and then I found the crematorium's business card. I asked Bolen about it and he said it was his best friend's ashes. He had been carrying them around with him," Baggett said. He said they had suspected he had stolen a sofa, which he recently sold. Harrell allegedly told an acquaintance he had burglarized several camphouses in Clarke and Washington Counties. "If anyone has noticed something missing from their home, or especially their camphouse, they need to contact me at the Clarke County Sheriff's Department, Baggett said. Bolen was charged with theft of property, first degree.
