Let's get on with it already Assuming the attorney general's office allows the 2000 municipal election to be used as the basis for counting signatures on the wet petition, the council should vote at its next meeting whether to hold a wet/dry election or not. If the council votes in favor of holding the election, the date should be not later than the proposed April 24 date. The longer this issue is allowed to drag on, the more damaging it could become to community cohesion. Thomasville does not need months and months of continued debate over the issue. It has already been in the public domain for a year now. Since both sides feel passionately about their viewpoint, we fear resentment could fester the longer this issue is drawn out. We're not in any way suggesting there should be a rush to get this done, but we do believe a protracted debate could harm relationships in this community.
In short, regardless of how things turn out, if we're going to have a vote on this issue, let's get on with, so we as a community can move forward once the issue is settled.
