Lady Tigers improve to 12-3 on season
In that game the visitors from south Escambia County trailed the Thomasville Ladies by two at the end of the first quarter but rallied in the second quarter to take the lead on their way to a 52-33 win. Thomasville made a run in the fourth quarter but it was too little, too late. Ebony Early and Keenya Martin both scored 11 points in the game to pace the Lady Tigers in the losing effort. Shelby Crawford was next with five points while Sondra Lanier, Dominic Watters and Twarner Witherspoon all contributed two points. Shelby Crawford and Early led the team on the boards pulling down nine rebounds apiece followed by Lanier and Martin with five each. Martin was the assist leader with two. On defense Early had two steals and a blocked shot and Witherspoon had two blocks. The Lady Tigers bounced back on Friday, Jan. 19, blasting the visiting Lady Tigers from Monroe County High School 65-24. In this one, Thomasville jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Ebony Early was the scoring leader for Thomasville pumping in 21 points. Keenya Martin and Sondra Lanier were next with 12 and 10 points respectively. Nicole Washington followed them with six points while Dominic Watters added five and Ashley Crawford chipped in four. Rounding out the scoring were: Shelby Crawford with three; Desiree Bettis and Kierra Westbrook with two; and Britany Stallworth with one. On the boards Early was the leader again grabbing eight rebounds followed by Washington with five. Washington was also the assist leader recording five. Ashley Crawford and Washington led the defensive effort with four steals each followed by Early with three. Early also blocked three shots from her center position while Shelby Crawford and Lanier blocked two each. The Thomasville Ladies finished the week with a lopsided win over the Lady Bulldogs of Sweet Water High School defeating them 65-25 before an enthusiastic home crowd on Saturday, Jan. 20. In the game 13 of the 15 Thomasville players scored points with Dominic Watters leading the way with 10. Ebony Early and Sondra Lanier were next with eight points each followed by Desirea Bettis, Shelby Crawford, and Kierra Westbrook with six each. Ashley Crawford, Keenya Martin and Candrea Welch all scored four points apiece while Tamera Robinson had three and teammates Shaneka Nicholson, Brianna Penn and Twarner Witherspoon had two. Controlling the boards for Thomasville was Witherspoon with eight rebounds and Welch with seven. Nicholson was the assist leader with four followed by Britany Stallworth, Robinson and Washington with three. Early was the leader on defense with five steals and two blocked shots followed by Nicholson and Robinson with three steals each and Shelby Crawford with two blocked shots.
Coming up this week for the Lady Tigers was a big area match-up with Jackson on the road Tuesday, Jan. 23 before coming back home for the County Tournament that will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 24 and run through Friday, Jan. 26.
