Tigers down CHS, ECHS The Thomasville High School boys' varsity basketball team rebounded from an overtime loss to the Jackson Aggies to win two straight over the Coffeeville Panthers and the Escambia County Blue Devils. The three games were all part of a seven game home stand that the Tigers found themselves in. Prior to the two victories, the Tigers took the Jackson Aggies to the wire in their area matchup played on Friday, January 12 only to see it slip away in an overtime period. The first and third quarters were dead even with the Aggies taking a lead at halftime and the Tigers battling back in the fourth to knot the game up and force the extra period. The Aggies were on target in the overtime and left Thomasville with a 54-48 win. Three Tigers, Daril Jackson, Curtis Lane and Tysean Thompson scored 10 points each to lead the Thomasville scoring attack in the losing effort. Antron Holt was next with eight points. Holt was the leader on the boards with nine rebounds followed by Lane with eight. Jackson led the Tigers in assists with five followed by Lane and Thompson with four apiece. Thompson led the defensive effort with four steals while Jackson had three. Things went somewhat better for the Tigers on Saturday, January 13, when they hosted the Coffeeville Panthers and sent the boys from west Clarke County home with a 65-55 loss. Once again the outcome of the game wasn't decided until an overtime period was completed. After taking a nine point lead into the locker room at halftime the Tigers saw the Panthers battle back to tie the score by the end of regulation thus forcing an extra period. Tacory Marshal and Tysean Thompson had the hot hands for Thomasville scoring 12 points each in the victory. Daril Jackson was next with 10 points followed by Shed Simmons with six. Marshal was the big man on the board for the Tigers with six rebounds followed by Thompson with five. Simmons and Thompson were the assist leaders with three each. Jackson led the team on defense with four steals while Thompson had three. Escambia County, another area opponent, came to town on Tuesday, January 16, to take on the Tigers in a pivotal game. Just as they had done on Saturday, the Tigers walked away from this one with a tenpoint victory defeating the Blue Devils 75-65. There was no extra-period needed to decide the out come of the game however as the Tigers fought back from an early deficit to claim the victory. Daril Jackson set the pace for the Tigers scoring 27 points in the game. Three of his teammates were also in double figures as Antron Holt had 19 points, Delvonte Harris had 11 points, and Curtis Lane had 10 points. Holt took charge on the boards for the Tigers pulling down 12 rebounds followed by Lane with eight and Jackson with five. Jackson also had eight assists in the game to lead that category.
Up next for the Tigers whose season mark stood at 7-5 and area record 3-1 were home games with Monroe County on Friday, January 19 and with Sweet Water on Saturday, January 20 followed by a road trip to Jackson on Tuesday, January 23. The Tigers were also slated to host the County Tournament beginning on Wednesday, January 24, running through Friday, January 26.
