Spiritual Reflections
Prepare your heart and pray
Pat Ozment, Jr.
There's too much to tell. I could tell about flying, but we have landed. I could talk about the "Hamartan," a giant cloud of dust from the Sahara desert that almost blots out the Sun over West Africa, leaving dust everywhere.

I could talk about homicidal, city traffic, and street venders who surround any vehicle that stops. I could talk about standing four hours in one line after another, to get a drivers license, then starting over because someone decided we needed three photos instead of two.

I could talk about going to the money changer and exchanging $500.00 for $4,680,000 "Cedis," the Ghana currency. I could tell you about traveling by automobile from Accra to Kumasi, about 180 miles that took 6 hours, with pit stops that were literally the pits.

I could talk about a "swanky" motel in Kumasi where our bathroom had a picture window allowing us to see out, and others to see in. I could talk about having supper with the President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, after Peggy fell in the swimming pool with her clothes on. I could talk about termite mounds 15 feet high.

I could talk about Mango groves, Mahogany trees, Kapok trees, Banana trees, Plantain trees, and Coconut Palms. I could talk about villages with thatched roofed, mud huts, about colorfully dressed women and children carrying unbelievable burdens balanced on their heads, about bikes and motor scooters everywhere, Islamic Mosque , and calls to pray toward Mecca.

Instead, I want to tell you about Missionaries, who tell people about Jesus, because "the Lord is not willing that any should perish," about three doctors and a hand full of nurses and assistants who see hundreds of desperately sick and critically injured every day.

I want to tell you about the gentle and hospitable people of Ghana. I want to tell you about people who walk long distances in stifeling heat to worship a man called Jesus. I want to tell you about people crowded together, singing praises to God, then dancing down the isle to give their offering, and about worship that last until it is finished. I want to tell you about the hunger in people's eyes. I want to, but I can't, not really. You have to experience

Prepare your heart, pray, pack your bags, and I'll see you in Church.
