OBITUARIES

Bessie Mae Autry

Bessie Mae Autry, 74, of Vineland died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at her home. Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral home in Thomasville on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Lister Hill officiating.

Mrs. Autry was a native of Pine Hill and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Milton W. Autry of Vineland; two sons, Robert M. Autry of Vineland and Hector E. Autry of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Tim Autery of Prattville; one brother-in-law, Lynn McClelland of Sunny South; three sisters-in-law, Mattie McClelland of Sunny South, Pearl Autery of Oak Grove and Willene Autery of Prattville; friend, Emma Autery of Pine Hill; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Underwood, Tim Autery, Alvin Autery, Ramar Autery, Neil Autry, Jonathan Autry.

Honorary pallbearers Dois "Hot" Autrey, Gerald "Red" Autrey, Gerry Linden, Terry Smith, Koss Green, Frank Shamberger.

Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.

Sylvia Mae Adams Dial Grant

Funeral services for Sylvia Mae "Dude" Adams Dial Grant of Cleveland, Ohio were held Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Independent Baptist Church in Sweet Water with Elder Ernest Eirby officiating. Interment followed in Gooden Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Putnam.

Mrs. Grant was a native of Marengo County born to the late Willie James Adams, Sr. and Olevia "Levia" Tensley Adams in Aimwell on April 7, 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Major Dial and Clark Grant; her parents; three sisters, Lula Thomas Peterson, Mary Lucille Adams and Bettye Adams Berry; three brothers, Willie James Adams, Sr., Jessie Ree Adams, Sr. and Arthur George Adams, Sr.

Survivors include one daughter, Shauntel Dial Johnson of Cleveland; nine sisters, Annie Adams Evans, Mary Adams Berry Watkins of Thomasville, Myra (Ozell) Jackson, Mary Lee (George), Mary Ann (Kenneth) and Beverly Adams, all of Tuscaloosa, Barbara (Joe) Chaney of Lisman, Annie Tucker of Jachin and Hazel (Rickey) Adams of Lisman; four brothers, Willie Lee (Vera), George (Ertha) Adams, both of Lisman, John Adams of Thomasville and William Adams of Tuscaloosa; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Jean Adams of Butler and Gloria Jean Adams of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were brothers and cousins.

Flowerbearers were nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were directed by Weatherly-Studdard Memorial Funeral Home in Butler.

David Harrison Lynn

David Harrison Lynn, 75, of Thomaston died Monday, January 29, 2007 at Long Term Hospital of Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Mike Allen officiating. Interment followed at McKinley Cemetery in Catherine.

Mr. Lynn was retired from Simplex Industries where he worked as a floor man. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was a U. S. Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Lynn; mother, Birdie Mae Kirkham Owens; two brothers, Walter Earl Lewis and James Allen Lewis; and three sisters, Annie Lee Tolbert, Johnnie Me Poellnitz and Lucille Gill.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Morgan Lynn of Thomaston; two sons, David Keith Lynn of Mobile and William Scott Lynn of Madison; one sister, Lillie Pearl Ward of Demopolis; and three half brothers, Joe Benny Lynn of Thomasville, Zeke Lewis, Jr. of Selma and Arthur George Lewis of Gallion.

Active pallbearers were Walter Morgan, Larry Schroeder, Lucky Poellnitz, Dustin Smith, Bobby Joe Lynn and Mark Lynn.

Honorary pallbearers were Marengo Nursing Home Staff.

Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden.

Oneal Martin

Oneal Martin, 72, died January 31, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary. Funeral services were held at Thomasville Church of God in Christ with Rev. Dr. James G. Curry officiating. Interment followed in the New Greater First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Martin was retired from the Army and was a member of the New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church in Thomasville.

He was preceded in death by his mothers, Gertrude Martin and Grace Martin; father, Walter Lee Martin; brother, W. C. Anderson; sister, Gloria Winston.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Martin; two daughters, Angelia L. Martin and Felicia Martin, both of Fayettville, Ga.; one son, Larry (Gaynell) Walker of La Habra, Calif.; two grandchildren; one brother, John (Emma) Martin of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Joyce Walker (Jarried Rivers), Wynderlyn Benjamin and Sherron (Alfonza) McCoy of Thomasville; father-in-law, Aaron Grayson of Dixons Mills; brotherin laws, Clifford Grayson of Dixons Mills, Alvin (Lila) Grayson of Sylacauga, George (Lucille) Grayson of Paramount, Calif., Willard Grayson of Glendale, Calif., Richard Grayson of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-inlaws, Bettye Grayson of Dixons Mills, Carolyn Grayson of Montgomery, Juanita Grayson of Mobile, Bessie Grayson of Sweet Water, Loretta Anderson of Thomasville; and a host of other special family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Army Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church and Southwest Alabama Elks No. 1730 and VFW.

Flowerbearers were the Deaconess of New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church.

Wilhelmina Muckelrath Parnell Pirtle

With sadness in our hearts but with memories that will last a lifetime, we announce the passing of our dear Hitsy, a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend to many. Hitsy was born Wilhelmina Muckelrath Parnell on December 28, 1948, in Grove Hill. She passed away on February 2, 2007 in San Diego, Calif., after a heroic battle with cancer.

The daughter of Gene and Wilhelmina Parnell, Hitsy was reared in Thomasville. She graduated from Thomasville High School and obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama in 1969. After obtaining her degree she taught school in Cobb County, Georgia. While at the University of Alabama, Hitsy was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. In 1969 she represented the State of Alabama in the Miss USA Pageant, placing upon the finalists. Her beauty and sense of style continued throughout her life, and in 2002, she launched her own decorating business "Happy Homes by Hitsy", fulfilling a lifetime dream.

Hitsy was married and became a mother in 1981. She devoted her life to parenting her two sons, Brett and Joshua Levinson. In 2000, she married the love of her life, William Pirtle and became the stepmother of Billy, Jessica, and Emily Pirtle. Hitsy not only loved her children and stepchildren, but her animals especially her pug Bonnie Louise.

Hitsy leaves her loved ones with many special memories. She is loved and deeply missed by her husband, William Pirtle, San Diego, Calif.; mother, Wilhelmina Parnell, Thomasville; son, Brett Levinson, Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter, Kiley Levinson, Atlanta; son, Joshua Levinson, New Orleans, La.; brother, Covert Eugene Parnell III (Pete), Palm Springs, Calif.; brother, Polie M. Parnell, Palm Harbor, Fla.; sister, Mary Parnell Mathis (Burnsie), Atlanta; stepson, Billy Pirtle, Nashville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Jessica Pirtle, Atlanta; and stepdaughter, Emily Pirtle, Manhattan, New York.

A memorial ceremony celebrating her life will be held at the Thomasville United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Thomasville United Methodist Church, 110 Old Highway 5, Thomasville, Alabama 36784.

Samuel Ray Wilson

Samuel Ray Wilson, 58, of Thomasville died February 3, 2006 in a Baldwin County Medical Facility. Funeral services were held at Midway Baptist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Jeromy Wilson of Robertsdale; two daughters, Samantha Wilson of Michigan and Jennifer Morgan of Bon Secour; his mother, Evelyn Wilson of Thomasville; two brothers, Joe (Sharon) Wilson and Earl (Peggy) Wilson, both of Thomasville; two sisters, Mary (Truman) Williams Hutchinson and Linda (Tommy) Megginson, both of Thomasville; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Greene, Scotty Nelson, Donald Joe Bradford, Walter Wilson, Tony Williams and Jay Williams.

Funeral arrangements were directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.
