What's the big deal with N. Korea? If this sounds like a victory to you, keep reading. The only thing the North Koreans have actually agreed to do is shut down their nuclear power plant and stop making more plutonium and nuclear bombs. In exchange for that, they'll get about half a billion dollars in aid from us and other countries. Now, let's revisit the previous line. The North Koreans have only agreed to stop making MORE plutonium and nuclear bombs. According to most sources, the North Koreans have already processed enough plutonium to build at least 10 nukes. Let's be realistic. How many more do they really need? Don't be surprised if Iran does something similar. Things could drag out there until Iran already has the nukes. It's pretty easy to say you'll stop once you have enough to blow up half a continent. In essence, it's what the U.S. And the Soviet Union did in the 1980s. They already had enough nukes to bake the whole planet. If you have enough nukes on either side of the cold war to put the assured in mutually assured destruction, why not strike a deal? The real trick, the hard work, involved hammering out and enforcing agreements that made both sides begin reducing their stockpile of nuclear weapons, and the means by which to deliver them.
We could be wrong, but don't expect any such agreement to come from North Korea or Iran - ever.
