Marengo students visit Civil Rights Institute and Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in B'ham
On February 1, 2007, Marengo High School, grades 4-8 went on a trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. Lunch was provided at Barnhills. The trip was funded by the Marengo County SEED Foundation. First year teacher, Mrs. Betina Jones Johnson wrote a grant proposal to the SEED Foundation for the trip. The expedition was titled "Future Leaders of Alabama." The SEED Foundation awarded Mrs. Jones Johnson $2,950. The purpose of the trip was to educate young black youth on the changes society has made, the triumphs they have had to conquer, nonviolence and to promote educational excellence. There were 122 students that attended the field trip, and the school received many compliments on the well-behaved students. Marengo High School would like to thank all of the parents and teachers that chaperoned this trip and made it possible.
