OBITUARIES Bernice Armistead Bernice Wilson Armistead, 77, a homemaker of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Feb.15, 2007 at Jackson Health Care Facility in Jackson. A Jackson native, she was born December 31, 1929. She was a member of Peniel Baptist Church and a member of the Santa Fe Chapter 505 of Eastern Star. Funeral services were held at Peniel Baptist Church, Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marion Ball and Rev. Leon Parnell officiating. Burial was in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Howard Maybon Armistead, Jackson; brothers James E. Wilson, Saraland, and Graham Wilson, Jackson; sister Doris Hoven, Grove Hill; long time friend Willie Grace Fendley; special friend Delilah Harris; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ernest Slade, Douglas Atchison, John Moseley, Leslie E. Hoven, Ward Edge and Dale Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were members of Eastern Star, Santa Fe Chapter 505 of Jackson. Elder Joseph Prett Calhoun Funeral services for Elder Joseph Prett Calhoun, 76, will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Baptist Church in Mobile. Rev. Calhoun was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was born on Oct. 21, 1930, the son of the late Pastor Willard Calhoun, Sr. and the late Annie Bell Jones Calhoun of Dickinson. He was the oldest and longest serving pastor of the Bethel Baptist Assoc. He was assistant pastor and long time member of St. Joseph Baptist Church, Mobile; former pastor of Bell's Chapel Baptist Church and the New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Lower Peachtree and he served as pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Sweet Water for 41 years. Survivors include his wife, Josie Lee Calhoun; sons Lorenzo McCaskill, Dickinson, and Joseph Prett Calhoun Jr. of Germany; three daughters Bessie (Jerome) Henderson, Mobile and Cheryle Castleberry and Jan Parker of Jacksonville, Fla. In addition he leaves seven step children: Carlos (Carol) Calhoun, Sharon Benefield, Arthur Holt and Cheryl (Rickey) Reed all of Mobile, Charlotte (Marvin) Barge and Douglas Molette of Duluth, Ga. and Daren Bradley, Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers Elder Samuel L. (Joyce) Calhoun, Sr., Linden, and Robert S. (Marie) Calhoun and Robert L. (Ora Lee) Calhoun of Dickinson: five sisters Mother Mary Lee Henderson, Dickinson, Bessie M. Phillips and Willie B. White, Thomasville, and Mattie B. Jackson of Mobile; and 39 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Hodge Funeral Home in Prichard directed. Taylor Harrell Cannon Taylor Harrell Cannon, 70, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at his home in Linden. He was born Oct. 2, 1936 in Hugo, Retired from James River Corp. where he worked as a purchasing agent, he was a member of Linden Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Linden Baptist Church Monday, Feb.19 at 3 p.m. with Rev. W.J. Cannon and Rev. Robert Pearce Jr. officiating. Burial was at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Gallion. Ron Smith officiating. Burial was in Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery in Sweet Water. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Heath Wade. Sarah Glass Langley Sarah Glass Langley, 82, a homemaker of Sweet Water, died Monday, Feb.12, 2007, at her daughter's home in Satsuma. She was born April 9, 1924 in Calvary, Ala. She was a member of Old Union Baptist Church in Sweet Water. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Langley. Funeral services were held Feb. 15 at Old Union Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Hill and Rev. James Nichols officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Funeral services were held at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Coffeeville on Friday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Moody Day and Rev. Harvey Hutto officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, L.C. Pugh, Coffeeville; daughter, Debra Goodman, Thomasville; and sisters, Mae Belle Newton, Tallahatta Springs, Mary Lou Duke, Coffeeville, and Narvalee Williams, Thomasville.
