Elder Joseph Calhoun

Elder Joseph Calhoun, pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Sweet Water, was laid to rest on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at St. Paul Baptist Church in Mobile, at 11 a.m. he is survived by mother, Mary Henderson of Dickerson; brothers, Elder S. L. Calhoun of Linden, and Robert and Robin Slack Calhoun of Dickerson; sisters, Bessie Calhoun Carroll and Willie B. White, both of Thomasville and Mattie B. Jackson of Mobile. Funeral arrangements by Mosley Funeral Home of Thomasville.

Anthony R. Cowan

Anthony R. "Andy" Cowan, age 40, passed away on February 9, 2007. He was born August 2, 1966 in Thomasville. Funeral were held on February 17 at Antioch Baptist Church in Nicholsville, with Rev. Edmond Charleston officiating. Burial was in Givenland CME Church Cemetery in Bashi. As a child he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Thomasville.

He joined St. John AME Church in Union Springs where he served on the Steward Board. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Nicholsville. He was employed by J. W. Lewis Trucking of Dixons Mills.

He is survived by wife, Gloria Cowan of Union Springs; daughter, Sierra Cade; sister Melissa (Michael) Pope of Thomasville; aunts, Mattie Foster and Mildred Cowan of Thomasville and Maggie Pruitt of Mobile; uncles, Leo P. Cowan and George Cowan of Thomasville; one great aunt, Georgia Cowan; niece, nephew, host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers were Teddy Cowan, Leander Foster, Maurice Cowan, Michael Grayson, Robert Foster and Kenny Todd.

Flowerbearers were cousins and classmates of 1984.

Barbara Ann Jones

Sister Barbara Ann Jones, age 54, passed away on February 14, 2007 at South Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery. She was born November 16, 1952 in Grove Hill. She graduated from Clarke County High School and Good Counsel University of White Plains, New York. She worked as a social worker for the state of Michigan.

She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra Jones of Atlanta, Ga; mother, Bertha (Walter) Nevells of Mobile; aunt, Minnie Law of Mobile; uncle, Henry Louis Calhoun, of Grove Hill; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by son, Ceaser Jones and her father, George Love, Sr.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church of Whatley with Rev. Fernell Pendleton, officiating minister with burial in the First Baptist Church Cemetary in Whatley.

Pallbearers and flowerbearers were family and friends.

Mavis Edna Eddins Kendrick

Mavis Edna Eddins Kendrick, age 76, born in China Grove, June 3, 1930, died February 26, 2007 in Mobile. Mrs Kendrick was the wife of Dr. Paul Kendrick, who has been the Director of Missions for the Washington Baptist Assoc. in Chatom for 17 years. Mrs. Kendrick was a retired bank teller for Southwest Bank in Chatom, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatom.

She is survived by husband, Dr. Paul Kendrick of Chatom; son, Milton (Carol) Kendrick of Marianna, Fl.; twin sons, Ronald (Nita) Kendrick of Montgomery, Russell (Donna) Kendrick of Monroeville; daughters, Lisa (Ronnie) Smoke of Deatsville, Candace (Dr. Don) Hines of Troy; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday morning, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Chatom, the body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. A second service will be at 4 p.m. in Zion Chapel Baptist Church on Hwy 87 North of Elba. The body will lie in state from 3 p.m. until time of the service, followed by interment in the Zion Chapel Baptist Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom in charge of arrangements.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Caring Hearts Center Building Fund in care of The Washington Baptist Assoc., P.O. Box 1447, Chatom, Al. 36518.

Pallbearers will be the Grandsons: Thomas Kendrick, Kris Kendrick, Jonathan Kendrick, Matt Kendrick, Josh Kendrick, Lowell Thomas, Davis Ebarb, Daniel Ebarb.

Honorary will be the Granddaughters: Alicia Kendrick, Christi Register, Laurie Kendrick, Kimberly Thomas, Britney Asher and Ministers and wives and Widows of Ministers.

Stephen Robert Moore

Stephen Robert Moore, age 34, an electrician of Somerville, passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 in Somerville. He was born December 21, 1972, in Selma.

Funeral services were held at Midway Baptist Church in Thomasville, on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Shoemake officiating. Burial was at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, in Thomasville.

He is survived by father, George Robert "Bobby" (Jenni) Moore of Browns; three sisters, Wanda (Glynn) Durrett of Columbiana; Jennifer Moore of Browns; Jacqueline Gaddy (Marty) Deart of Dahlonega, GA; grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Moore of Selma; niece, Stephanie Jowers of Vestavia Hills and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eugenia Stephens Moore; maternal grandparents, Enoch and Trannie Stephens; paternal grandfather, Fred Moore.

Active Pallbearers were: Stevie Stephens, Benny Ray Stephens, Andy Kynard, Christopher Moore, Erik Zimmerman, and Shane Williamson.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Roland Griffin and Jeremy Moore.

Mary Ellen Odom

Mary Ellen Odom, age 73, of Thomasville, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2007 at her home. She was born December 21, 1933 in Franklin. She was a retired home health care worker and she attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Thomasville.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chris Giles officiating. Burial was at Choctaw Corner Cemetery, in Thomasville.

She is survived by three sons, David Stabler of Prattville; Wayne Cobb of Monroe Co.; Dewayne Cobb of Monroe Co.; six daughters, Mary Hagemann of Prattville; Martha Sheehan of Thomasville; Patricia O'Hara of Montgomery; Reecie Steadman of Monroe Co.; Diane Cobb of Monroe Co.; Frances McKinley of Monroe Co.; brother, William Cecero Turberville of Monroe County; sisters, Rubye Irene McKinley; Eunice Elizabeth McKinley; Gloria Dean Cole; Thelma Jewel Lanior, all of Monroe Co.

Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren

Maggie Rogers

Maggie (Big Ma) Rogers, age 87, of Whatley, passed away February 15, 2007 at her home. She was born September 9, 1919. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Whatley. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church of Whatley with Rev. Fernell Pendleton officiating. Burial was in Piney Woods Cemetery in Whatley.

She is survived by daughters, Linda (Hoses) Calhoun of Whatley; Annie B. Pope of Grove Hill; Mary Francis (Reginald) Pope of Mobile; Bennie Pearl (Robert) Hicks; Barbara Ann (Kenneth) Whitsett; Robin (Joe Frank) Horn of Enterprise; sons, Lee Arties (Coreless) Rogers of Toledo, OH; Marshall E. (Dorothy) Robinson of Zimco; Van Rogers; Roy (Louise) Rogers; Calvin Rogers; Bobby Rogers of Mobile; brother-inlaws, James (Birdie) Rogers, Rev. Heary (Eunice) Rogers; sister-in-laws, Katie Dell Brown; Elsie Jackson and Gladys Robinson of Grove Hill; 49 grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband; Isiah Rogers; sister, Louise Johnson; sons, Donald Lee and Cecil Robinson; brother, Willie Dodge.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great grandsons.

Nettie E. Williams

Nettie E. Williams, age 89, a homemaker of Thomasville, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center. She was born March 13, 1917 in Morvin. She was a member of Thomasville Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Thomasville Baptist Church on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Robert Kirkland and Dr. James Best officiating. Burial was at Choctaw Corner Cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Theresa) Pruitt; Winston (Elsie) Pruitt; Michael (Lisa) Williams all of Thomasville; daughter, Juanita (Carl) Henley of Andalusia; daughter-in-law, Patricia Pruitt of Thomasville; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren 1 sister-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Carl J. Pruitt; husband, Frank Taylor Williams; son, Hollis E. Pruitt; infant daughter, Nettie Earl Williams.

Active Pallbearers were: Taylor Williams, Tanner Williams, Jeff Pruitt, Jason Pruitt, Steve McCollum, Stanley Turk.

Mary Alice Woods

Mary Alice Woods, age 86, of Thomasville, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2007. She was born in Thomasville on February 8, 1921, the baby of 10 siblings. She worked as a nurse assistant. She had a passion for caring for the elderly.

Funeral services were held at New Hope Baptist Church in Thomasville, with Rev. Grady McMilliam, pastor and Rev. James G. Curry officiating. Burial was in New Hope No. 2 Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by daughters, Ellen (Alonzo) Stallworth of Thomasville and Mary A. Jenkins of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, General (Wylene) Woods of Shiloh, Ga., Charlie (Clara) Woods and Barney (Beverly) Woods of Thomasville;15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Barney Woods and daughter, Rosa M. Woods.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Flowerbearers were family and friends.
