Boy nearly electrocuted at ASCC A Sweet Water boy was nearly electrocuted Thursday in Monroeville when he got into an electrical service station on the campus of Alabama Southern Community College. Chase Grochowski, nine, was playing with his older brother Ty near the softball field at the school when he apparently gained access to an unsecured electrical panel near the field. Grochowski apparently touched live wires in the panel and received a highvoltage charge of electricity, that set him on fire. Grochowski suffered burns to his chest, arm and back and was temporarily blinded by the flash. His older brother, Ty, was near him when the accident occurred and pulled him from the panel and put out the fires. Ty suffered minor burns to his hands and some temporary vision impairement from the flash, according to family members. Ty is already back at school, according to his uncle, Bobby Smith. Chase was recovering well at the children's hospital in Birmingham. Some of the burning was discovered to not be as bad as originally feared. He underwent surgery Tuesday to receive skin grafts to his chest and back, Smith said. "We're thankful it wasn't worse," he said. "He's recovering better than originally expected, and that's good news for us."
A fund has been set up in Chase Grochowski's name at Sweet Water State Bank for donations to help with the expenses.
