OUR VIEW
Prison and alcohol issues take time
So Thomasville and the county are going to team up in the effort to bring a women's prison facility to our little part of the world.

Sometimes it can be easy to be defined by just one thing, especially for a small town. We hope this prison, if it comes, is not that thing.

In limbo

At this point, it's probably a safe bet that everyone in Thomasville would like for the Attorney General to go ahead and make his determination about what election to use when determining the number of signatures needed for the alcohol petition.

Until such time as the AG makes his opinion we're all in limbo. Certainly, the forces for and against can continue promoting their views on the issue, but we're no closer to the expected vote now than we were a year ago.

Even if the AG rules the city must use the general election numbers instead of the last municipal election, we've heard the pro sales folks are determined to get enough signatures to call the vote.

But, whether we love it or we hate it, this is democracy at work. It's a slow process at times.
