Thompson incoming commander
First Lt. Oscar "DeWayne" Thompson, Jr. was named the commander of Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion of the 13th Infantry Regiment on Feb. 2. He was born and raised in Thomasville. Upon graduating from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery in 2004. He is a graduate of the Field Artillery office Basic Course. Thompson's assignments include: headquarters and headquarters Battery, Division Artillery at Camp Stanley, Republic of South Korea from 2004 to 2006, headquarters and headquarters/Service Battery, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, also at Camp Stanley, Battalion S-2 from January to November 2006, Foxtrot Company, 3rd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, S.C., as the Company Executive Officer. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. His parents are Oscar and Mary Thompson Sr. and Kerry and Helen Carter. His grandparents are Orbert and BeEtta McIntosh of Sweet Water, and James and Pauline Thompson of Thomasville.
