Spiritual Reflections
God does not reject us for our imperfections
Pat Ozment, Jr.
Africa is missing. Its not where I left it. Several weeks ago in Kumasi, Peggy and I bought some beautiful, hand died cotton cloth, so that we could have an "African" designed shirt made for me. The material had designs in black, tan and rust colors, separated with streaks of white.

The artesian had perfectly placed two black silhouettes of the African continent in the center of the material near the top and the bottom, so that a shirt could be made with one silhouette on the front and one on the back. After we arrived in Tamale we inquired of a friend about a seamstress to make my shirt, and we took the, "one of a kind," piece of cloth to the lady who was recommended.

For several weeks I have looked forward to receiving my African shirt. This week my long awaited garment was delivered. You guessed it. There is no visible silhouette of Africa anywhere. The shirt fits. It is undeniably attractive, but Africa is missing.

After a thorough search I discovered part of the "Dark Continent" under the armpit on the left side of the shirt. What happened? Why was Africa not where it should be? It turned out that the lady who made my shirt had never seen a picture of the continent on which she resided.

She probably thought that the two black masses were flaws in the dyeing process, so she cut one of them out, and hid the other one.

You might imagine, I was disappointed, and upset over the situation, but then a passage of scripture came to my mind. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says, "Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"

Now every time I put on my "African" shirt I will remember how disappointed God must be sometimes, with the temple I have tailored for Him.

My shirt is not just like I wanted it to be, but I'm sure that I'm not all God would have me be either. God does not reject us for our imperfections. My shirt is looking better all the time.

See you in Church.
